The challenge

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we're responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. With so much at stake we're upgrading our tech - and transformation is happening rapidly. Think Cloud and Azure; sprints and scrums... and imagine yourself at the forefront.

The role

As a Service Desk Analyst, your work will be critical to so many people across ONR. You'll keep our IT operations up and running across the organisation, including data centres. Providing 1st and 2nd line support, you'll be the first port of call when problems arise, triaging if needed. Issues could concern hardware, software, audio-visual, multi-functional devices, or telephony equipment.

Day to day, you'll be receiving requests and incidents from customers, resolving them with the appropriate tool. Crucially, you'll know when to escalate the issue to a more senior team member - not every problem can be solved alone.

There will also be the opportunity to set up and repair equipment; support the wider ITDD team; and ensure housekeeping checks are in place. Every task is important and requires attention to detail.

The person

With experience in a similar role, you'll already have the right skillset. Ideally, you'll have the right qualifications too:  ITIL V4 Foundation Certification, or equivalent and MTA Cloud Fundamentals, or equivalent If you don't have this at the moment, you can still apply, as long as you're prepared to study. However, it's your expertise that counts and your technical understanding.

At this level, you'll be able to resolve end user requests, provide a high quality service and manage a range of priorities. This involves tracking and logging information, and producing reports. You'll also know all about different IT products and their various features. But, above all, you'll have the communication skills to connect with a variety of people.

Why now? And why you?

As part of our 2025 strategy, we're committed to being a modern and transparent regulator. We've invested heavily in new digital technologies and skills to enhance our regulatory processes and manage information. Now we need people who'll embrace an exciting, tech-enabled future. Whatever your role, you'll need to match our values: accountable, open-minded, supportive and fair.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £28,936 - £34,178 plus an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
