You'll work to build an even better industry.

And your own unique role.

The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is a growing, rapidly-evolving public corporation. Essentially, we are the UK's independent regulatory body for nuclear safety, security and safeguards, and our primary role is to regulate the nuclear industry effectively. To achieve our ambitions, we need a proven Programme and Business Manager to work within our Regulatory Directorate. With your initiative and motivation, you'll shape your role and build your reputation within ONR.

The role

Our five Regulatory divisions deliver a diverse portfolio of activities across the nuclear industry, and you'll be responsible for ensuring that they do that to agreed time, cost and quality standards.

It's a fast-paced environment where you'll need to think on your feet. You'll be the person defining scope, monitoring progress, managing costs, expectations and risks. Every day, you'll be dealing with multiple contacts, both within and outside the organisation - collaboration will be essential when it comes to programme delivery.

The person

A skilled Programme Manager, you'll ideally have recognised PPM qualifications. They could include PRINCE2 Practitioner, Managing Successful Programmes and APM PMQ/PPQ. With this background, you'll have a good grasp of programme delivery frameworks, tools and processes. You'll also have worked with varying levels of risk and impact, and developed a broad range of project documentation. This expertise will give you the credibility to lead teams and form vital partnerships. Proactive and a natural people person, you'll be adept at building high-level relationships, including with multi-disciplinary technical specialists. An understanding of regulatory environments is helpful but not essential.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £59,151 - £68,344. Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you'll receive a generous holiday entitlement.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they're involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
