A Network Security Engineer position has now become available within the IT Department at Hargreaves Lansdown. On a day to day basis you will be responsible for the management and ongoing maintenance of all the security infrastructure, with your primary focus being the firewalls.

This role is suited to an individual who enjoys owning a problem but working alongside other teams to resolve it. As well as providing the day to day support during normal business hours, as part of an infrastructure team, you will be expected to take part in our on-call rota. Due to the nature of the role there will also be some out of hours work expected.

The ideal candidate for this role is someone with 3 years’ experience as a Firewall or Network Security Engineer with a solid foundation and interest in IT security.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintenance of the firewalls and intrusion detection infrastructure in line with industry best practices.

- Firewall policy changes, reviews and access re-certification.

- Supporting other teams within the IT department, as well as the wider business.

- Contribute to the design and evolution of the network / security topology.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

- Grade C or above in Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent)

- Educated to A Level (or equivalent)

- 3 years’ experience working in a networking and security role.

- Network fundamentals such as switching and routing, including dynamic routing protocols

- High Availability protocols, such as HSRP, VRRP, JSRP, NSRP, Cluster XL

- Intrusion detection and prevention systems - IPS, IDP

- Configuration, deployment and troubleshooting IPSEC & SSL VPNs.

- In depth knowledge of security principles

- Good numerical skills

- Ability to analyse and problem solve

- Attention to detail

- Risk aware

- Experience of working in a zero downtime mission critical environment

- Strong communicator (written and verbal)

- Patient, diligent and diplomatic

- Proactive, resourceful and able to use initiative

- Willingness to learn, develop, and keep abreast of technological developments
