Software Development Consultant, (Internal), Tools and Process Advisor, Agile Coach and Software Development Manager

A Software Development Consultant is required to join a FTSE100 Global Technology Company. This is a unique role, in a newly created position with a lot of autonomy to create the right environment and have an impact on the whole business.

An overview:

The Software Development Consultant will be working with up to 80 Development Squads and Tribes across 20 Software Development teams, coaching, advising and delivering a service to them on best tools, processes, and documentation and best practices.

What is it doing?

This Software Development Consultant position is an internal role, working across global teams in the US, India, UK and Europe and the teams will be using a variety of different languages, such as Java, JavaScript, .NET, Python and Scala, as well as a variety of methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, general Agile and some Waterfall. The Software Development teams will also be working with various tools which this person will be largely responsible for helping guide the teams in the right and proper use of. These tools include, Jira, Github, Confluence, Slack and Gitlab.

Who should apply?

Because this role is so unique and there is scope for variety of different skillsets to come in, this role could be suitable for someone coming from a pure Software Development Management background, wanting to move away from pure Product Delivery and into a role that was more consultative and coaching focused. It could also be suitable for a Software Engineer wanting to move across from a pure Development and coding based role. Other roles that people may have backgrounds in may be; Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, Service Delivery Managers, CTO’s, Subject Matter Experts or even Application Support Manager or an Agile Coach… it just needs someone that has a variety of experiences and the maturity to consultant and coach rather than dictate to teams.

Some of the duties for this Software Development Consultant role include:

Managing third party vendors

Manging global teams

Managing technology, applications or software

Working closely with Developers and Software Development Manages, CTOs, VPs and Directors to provide potential solutions to Software Engineering problems - without dictating which one they should follow

Encouraging best practices

Encouraging correct documentation

Some of the skills required in this Software Development Consultant vacancy are as follows:

Ability to work in a consultative manner and collaborate on a solution rather than dictate

Act as a Service Provider and have that Service Orientated leadership mentality

Thorough understanding of the Software Development lifecycle

Knowledge of Software Engineering best practices, ideally Squads, Tribes, Agile, Lean principles etc

Team management skills, typically 5-10 persons.

Budget responsibility experience

Coaching skills

Agile knowledge with Lean, SAFe, Scrum and Kanban knowledge

Strong understanding of tooling for Software Development, ie. Jira, Jenkins, Github etc

Adaptability

Senior stakeholder management

Eagerness to improve efficiency
