System Technician - Electronics (East)

Field Based (covering the East, from Hunstanton to Lymington, including the Thames and Isle of Wight)

£25,407 - £29,891 DOE Plus Benefits including Company Van, Excellent Pension Scheme, 26 Days’ Holiday

Our client is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service.

Whatever the weather, equipment and crew need to operate to the very highest possible technical standards. It will be up to you to ensure this. This is an ideal opportunity to use your skills working on state-of-the-art lifeboats and associated equipment throughout the East region and occasionally other areas within the UK and ROI.

You will become part of a close team working with Station Mechanics, Contractors and other Technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repair on all of the electronic/electrical equipment and occasionally mechanical equipment within the region. It’s a chance to really make a lifesaving impact on the vital maintenance of lifeboats and their equipment.

Part of your duties as a System Technician will include trials of existing, repaired or new equipment so you will need to possess and demonstrate excellent electronic/electrical knowledge. You should have a desire to stay current in the use of existing technology and a willingness to learn and be involved in the roll-out and assessment of new electronic equipment which is constantly changing within our client’s Search and Rescue Assets.

To be successful, you will need:

- To have completed a time-served apprenticeship in marine or vehicle-based electronic engineering

- An NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent qualification in an electronic/electrical engineering discipline

- A full, valid driving licence

Ideally, you’ll have in-depth knowledge of marine electronics, electronic control systems, electrical systems and the use of electronic diagnostic equipment, but this isn’t essential.

As a System Technician, you’ll need to be self-motivated and willing to go that extra mile, working either as a part of a team or under your own initiative to the highest of standards with a first fix approach.

The role requires you to be part of a duty rota and be expected, when required, to work unsociable hours. As this is a field based role, you will be required to travel throughout the East, South East England and occasionally other regions in the UK and ROI.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

The closing date for applications is the 25th March 2018, with interviews scheduled to be held on the 3rd April 2018.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
