A vacancy for a Senior Materials Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space to work on space flight hardware in Stevenage. You will oversee technical solutions to materials and processes related issues which arise during the design, manufacture and test of flight hardware and ensure that correct selection of materials and processes has been made by suppliers to meet the mission specific requirements. Travel is a prerequisite for this position.

A vacancy for a Senior Materials Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space to work on space flight hardware in Stevenage. You will oversee technical solutions to materials and processes related issues which arise during the design, manufacture and test of flight hardware and ensure that correct selection of materials and processes has been made by suppliers to meet the mission specific requirements. Travel is a prerequisite for this position. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
                  •             Critical review of documents such as qualification test plans, drawings and test reports.
                  •             Manage all M&P aspects of suppliers by reviewing their data packs for all major project reviews (CDR / PDR / MRRs / TRRs / DRBs) throughout the life cycle of the project.
                  •             Lead Materials and Process Review Boards (MPCB)
                  •             Set up and manage ESA database for ESA funded Projects programme.
                  •             Represent Airbus at ESA, UK Space Agency, Customer-led reviews (NRBs,) and symposiums.
                  •             Authorise changes to Parts Materials and Processes (PMP) documents.
                  •             Recruit, support, coach and mentor junior Materials Engineers, Graduates and Apprentices.

You will have the following skills and experience:
                  •             Material Science / Science Degree (or equivalent) with industrial experience.
                  •             Practical application of Parts Materials and Processes (PMP) requirements.
                  •             Facilitation skills for leading problem solving and risk analysis.
                  •             Excellent communications, leadership and interpersonal skills.
                  •             Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
                  •             Materials Engineering knowledge and experience (properties and applications of a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials for use in a space environment - radiation, thermal, vacuum)
