CIS Engineer - RAF Valley

A market leading organisation is currently recruiting for a CIS Engineer to take on a permanent position ASAP. Responsible to OC CIS flight, the Airfield Support Team (AST) is responsible for ensuring communication information systems are serviceable and prepared for immediate deployment. The AST is expected to create a CT go-pack as per the Station Ground Defence Plan, which can, if the Station Commander decides, also be the post-crash communications go-pack. There will be emergency incidents that require AST duty personnel to deploy outside the station boundaries with RAF military personnel to operate and sustain station field radio communications. Routine responsibilities include the management and maintenance of CIS passive infrastructure, mast infrastructure, site maps, Management Radio Equipment (MRE) and public address support and deployment. The AST is in integral part of the overall station CIS team, some specific technical training to enable applicants to fulfil this role will be provided as required.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:

* Carrying out installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of LRU on the new Management Radio Equipment.

* Installation of ancillary equipment including line of sight dishes, surveillance equipment, HF, UHF and VHF antenna systems.

* Install and repair passive network infrastructure internally and externally including fibre and copper technologies.

* Working at height, installing CIS equipment on communication masts and buildings.

* Managing and maintaining station crash communication system equipment. Deploy, setup and operate the systems under the instructions of the incident commander.

* Carrying out the duties of the on-call CIS technician, providing 24 hour emergency response.

* Attending station siting boards, providing advice around RF maps, integrity maps and site clearances.

* Managing and maintaining control and test equipment through to calibration.

* Maintaining a register of tools and GSE holdings.

* Manging the allocation, serviceability and deployment of the station public address system.

* Assisting in the management of the change and governance processes for data input and export onto the HADES information portal at a station level.

* Actions tasks and ensure they are completed in accordance with MOD local instructions and directives.

* Uploading and deleting data within the HADES information portal upon completion of change and governance processes.

* Assist HADES regional managers with HADES information portal tasks for external HADES sites.

* Provide planned, irregular iHUB cover at regional locations.

The successful candidate will display the following skills, experience and qualifications:

* 2 GCSE at Grade C or better. Recognised equivalents accepted (Essential)

* City & Guilds in Advanced Fibre Optics

* Working at heights experience (Essential)

* Driving licence (Essential)

* ICDL/ECDL Licence Level 2 or above (Desirable)

* Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals Level 3 (Desirable)

* Ground radio operation and engineering training and experience (Desirable)

* International Rope Access Trade Association Level 1, 2 or 3 (IRATA level 1 minimum) (Desirable)

* Advanced Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals (Desirable)

* Experience working with CIS passive infrastructure (Desirable)

* Working at Height Authorised Person qualification (Desirable)

* RADHAZ experience (Desirable)

* A good understanding of RAF trade group 4 tasks and responsibilities (Desirable)

* Has undergone Trade Group 4 training delivered by the MOD (Desirable)

* Ex-military telecommunications mechanic, engineer or communications operator (Desirable)
