The Role:
Our client is looking for skilled Senior Network Security Engineers to join a growing team based in Oxford. The Senior Network Security Engineers will work at the forefront of technological development with the opportunity to contribute to significant change. The Senior Network Security Engineer will assist my client in shifting from on-premise infrastructure to cloud based services. Joining a team of expert engineers and the Senior Network Engineer will deliver a flexible and dynamic workplace experience; enabling people to access services from any device. The Senior Network Engineer will be involved in implementing network and security services that support a cloud approach. This Senior Network Engineer role requires an individual with a strong and proven background in network engineering/architecture or consultancy.
Key Accountabilities of the Senior Network Security Engineer:
Provide expertise to architecture and/or management to help make decisions and set priorities concerning all aspects of the network security environment
Collaborate with external suppliers and vendors for opportunities including the automation, network monitoring, reporting and analysis
Demonstrate a solid understanding of the underlying Platform to our internal customers
Participate as an active member of a transformation programme team, including daily and weekly meetings
Create and implement low-level designs in alignment with architecture principles and standards
Communicate with leadership teams on project requirements, status, obstacles and team performance
Ensuring all changes to the network are documented through Change Management Process
Contributing to the improvement of processes and approaches within the department
adept and creative skills for solving complex network and security challenges across multiple functions
Troubleshoot issues efficiently while effectively communicating escalations and outcomes
Provide guidance and mentoring to other engineers, supporting the design, implementation and troubleshooting when required
Key Performance Indicators for the Senior Network Security Engineer:
Our client has the capability to support new network technologies and can maintain high levels of network performance and reliability
Implement network and security services that support a ‘cloud first’ strategy, leading to reduced costs and improved business agility
Presentations, demonstrations and discussions with other teams are held regularly, are informative and relevant
Assist in the resolution of major incidents or problems encountered on the global network
Incidents are documented and issues are appropriately escalated
Activities and obstacles are communicated to PMO
MAIN CONTACTS (external/internal):
Team Manager (daily: direct manager)
Peers (daily: team members)
PMOs (daily: team member)
Users and Stakeholders (daily to weekly: Networking teams and leaders)
Required skill needed by the Senior Network Security Engineer:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Significant experience in Security Operations
Practical Experience with Enterprise level Firewall vendors
Operating knowledge of security Gateways products
Solid understanding of security best practices, particularly in relation to intrusion detection, web content filtering, data leakage prevention and encryption
In-depth understanding of VPN and supporting technologies
A solid understanding OSI model and TCP/IP, DNS, BGP Routing, Protocol Tags, Tunnels & NetFlow
Experience with design and implementation of network security policies and management systems
Demonstrable experience in translating service requirements and service designs requirements into a clear and coherent low-level designs
Considerable experience in defining security policies and procedures
A strong background in supporting multi-vendor, multi cluster Firewall platforms, that support a diverse set of products and a geographically disparate workforce
A good understanding of the total cost ownership and lifecycle management of network assets
Experience in the automation of manual tasks and seeking out efficiencies
Experience of advanced problem management and troubleshooting techniques of complex issues, performance and capacity reporting using various tools
Extensive and demonstrable experience of Incident and Problem Management, with an understanding of other ITIL processes, applied across multi-platform technologies
Technical Skills Knowledge/Skills/Experience required by the Senior Network Security Engineer:
Essential
Advanced knowledge of Service Provider or Enterprise level Firewalls
Advanced knowledge of VPN and supporting technologies
Advanced knowledge of security technologies including intrusion detection and prevention
Desirable
Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure network security designs, including best practices in configuring AWS Direct Connect and Azure
Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, Nagios and System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
Cyber Security and Compliance, PCI is a plus
Proficiency with Linux or other flavors of UNIX
