Working in partnership with the research community, policy makers, industry and society, CEH undertakes cutting edge research to deliver world class solutions to the most complex environmental challenges facing humankind.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Science Project Manager to work on high profile projects in the areas of water resources (e.g. ENDOWS, the final project in NERC’s Drought & Water Scarcity Programme), international science collaboration (e.g. India-UK Joint Water Centre) and improving analytical capability (e.g. Data Labs).

You will be working within the Water Resources Systems Group in Wallingford and utilise formal project management approaches to ensure successful delivery of a varied portfolio of scientific projects. You will work alongside CEH’s Project Leaders to deliver projects to time and budget whilst building and maintaining positive and long lasting collaborative relationships. You will network with collaborators in the UK and internationally to coordinate activities and work towards milestones. There will be a requirement to interface with funders and commercial contractors.

About you

You must have significant experience in managing multidisciplinary projects of a science/technical nature.

An undergraduate/postgraduate degree in science or business and a recognised project management qualification would be a significant advantage and you will be prepared to travel overseas for occasional meetings and conferences of short duration when required.

You must have an in depth understanding of project life cycles, governance, techniques for project planning and different levels of reporting requirements.

You will have the ability to demonstrate initiative, be pro-active in strategy development and delivering continuous improvement of business processes.

You must be confident in managing complex and conflicting workload, re-prioritise activities to meet strict deadlines and communicate these changes.

You will possess strong communication skills, know how to analyse and present complex information both orally and in writing.

You must have excellent interpersonal skills. You will possess a proven track record as a successful collaborator, influencer and negotiator and have the ability to act corporately on behalf of CEH responding skillfully to the different working styles and expectations of different cultures.

Experience of managing a variety of projects with a science or other technical focus is required. You will possess an ability to quickly gain an understanding of the aims and objectives of projects outside your own specialism.
