About the Team:

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) formally known as The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) have taken a leading position in the EU by building the Smart Metering Implementation Programme (SMIP). This is a large scale programme supporting climate change objectives through the mass deployment of 50m+ electricity and gas smart meters across 30m homes starting in September 2015.

Telefonica has been contracted as the Communications Service Provider (CSP) for the programme for 2 out of 3 regions.

We are looking for an experienced individual for a permanent role as a Technical Product Manager with both SMETS1 and SMETS2 Communication Hub experience.

As the SMIP Technical Product Manager (TPM) you will be 1 of 3 Technical Product managers, each will have a primary responsibility but will be required to have knowledge and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Communication Hubs design and capabilities. You will be required to liaise with the internal Telefonica Teams and externally with the customer DCC.

Your Role:

As a member of the SMIP Devices team, you will be responsible for Firmware Download (FWDL) and Config File management (CHCF) for the SMIP Communication Hubs estate, related activities including but not limited to; owning the FWDL Strategy, developing and managing CHCF`s for Live and testing environments, hosting workshops, attend meetings to gathering and assess evidence for failed FW delivery with the Service Management and the SMIP build and support team, producing the FWDL deployment plans and associated tasks.

You will be proficient in the use of Remedy (service management tool)

As the TPM you will be able to understand Design documents, test plans and Service Management Processes and Procedures, ensuring effectiveness for the deployment of new Comms Hub FW to ensure risks are being mitigated as well as holding discussions with stakeholders and to build relationships.

Responsibilities of the TPM will also include supporting the other TPM`s in the team covering product roadmap, Quality assurance, incident management and vendor relationships.

Responsibilities:

Working with the IT Application Team, Networks Team, Service Management Team, Test Teams, Support Teams and Architects, and reporting to the SMIP Devices Programme Manager, this role includes the following main responsibilities:

-Own the Communications Hub Firmware Download (CH FWDL) Deployment Strategy

-Create and deliver CH FWDL deployment plans based on the CH FWDL deployment strategy

-Create new and maintain existing CH Configuration files for all environments (Test and Production)

-Develop and own the Configuration File Deployment Strategy and Process.

-Work closely with relevant stakeholders and liaise with vendors

-Work with developers and designers to define and improve automation of the process where appropriate

-Submit monthly reports on the number of updates being completed, and report on failures the reasons and work with others to implement corrective actions and ensure all documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored

-Ensure the appropriate use of tools and processes are applied to achieve FWDL objective

-Ensure issues captured, recorded and raised in a timely manner and if required escalated

-Ensure testing issues and defects are captured, recorded and raised in a timely manner, logging all defects raised and tracking them until resolution

Skills & experience:

-Has a detailed experience in SMIP comms hub at least 3 years of experience

-5+ years of experience of working in the SMET 1 industry

-Experience of working on complex technical solutions in a multi-vendor environment

-Experience of working in product design and development

-Experience of testing comms hub products

-Experience of remote firmware deployment on a very large scale.Grade: PCGU
