As our SysOps Engineer you will be responsible for the provision, configuration and operation of both the software and hardware systems and the maintenance of the network infrastructure. You will deliver technical support and participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

The SysOps Engineer ensures that system hardware, operating and software systems and related procedures adhere to organisational values.

The SysOps Engineer will assist project teams with technical analysis and design and support the operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. They will be responsible for the Linux, Windows and network systems that support our hosting infrastructure, include engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

Key Responsibilities

           Server configuration and network support and administration

           Monitor & Manage servers, networks & backups

           Managing tasks in the Datacentre environment and liaising with maintenance personnel

           Resolving customer issues via ticket/telephone and escalating support requests whenever necessary

           Managing and maintaining our monitoring queues for all of our hosted customer infrastructure alerts

           Responding to issues within agreed SLA’s

Operations and Support

           Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

           Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.

           Provide Tier III/other support per request; Investigate and troubleshoot issues.

           Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

           Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.

           Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.

           Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

           Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimisation as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

Skills/Experience

           Experienced in Windows and Linux 2nd and 3rd Line administration

           Advanced knowledge of virtualisation technologies (VMware)

           Technical Support Helpdesk experience, including deployments racking and server configuration

           Previous experience of working within a Datacentre environment

           Demonstrate first class customer service skills and work ethic

           Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

           Flexibility to work outside of office hours and occasional weekends as required by the business

Desirable

           Advanced knowledge of LAN, WAN & WLAN including TCP/IP, MPLS, VPN, VLANS etc

           Basic knowledge of database technologies (MySQL, Oracle & MS-SQL)

           Vendor qualifications
