Do you want the opportunity to build upon your skills and development within this organisation whilst managing and leading the Mechanical Engineering team?
This specialist company based in Newcastle design, develop, test and commission products and as a result of continual growth are now looking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer responsible for the Deck Equipment Mechanical Engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with at least 10 years experience in an engineering design role coupled with excellent management and technical leadership skills.
The Role
·Line manage the Deck Equipment mechanical engineering team, include hours, holidays, absence and personal development reviews
·Be the focal point for all deck equipment mechanical engineering activity
·Provide management and technical leadership to the deck equipment mechanical engineering team, prioritising tasks in line with the needs of projects
·Act as the design authority for deck equipment and LARS products
·Drive the on time deliverables in accordance with the EDP across all Deck Equipment projects
The Person will:
·Demonstrates personal and management behaviours in line with SMD's culture and values.
·Leadership and people management skills
·The ability to understand and apply commercial and financial principles to engineering work to understand cost, profit, budget control and added value.
·Demonstrates sound analysis and judgement to investigate and interpret data, issues and situations, and weigh options in order to make sound technical and management decisions.
·Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a sound understanding of engineering principles
·A minimum of 10 years' experience in an engineering design role, preferably low-volume / high value capital equipment
·Experienced with Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor
·Capable of understanding and communicating about other non-mechanical elements of the design process - Electric, Control, Software and Hydraulic
·Experience with design schemes, design proposal drawings, detail drawings, GA's functional specs, and technical reports
·Good working knowledge in applying relevant H&S and engineering design standards
·Able to achieve a balance between developing new products, sales support and project engineering deliverables
·Able to understand customer requirements and translate these into technical specifications and designs
