Head of IT - Telecoms

Our client seeks a Head of IT to take overall accountability for the Development, Delivery and Operations.

This key technology role underpins the commercial business and is responsible for contributing to the Strategy and Leadership of the wider Technology department.

Role Profile:

This senior management role will be expected to interact closely with other functional heads and managers to provide astute leadership of business. Close engagement with operational staff will be mirrored with corresponding interaction with the Trading Board. The role will provide guidance, direction and inhouse expertise to consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Accountabilities:

- Lead, manage and develop a team of Project Managers, Business Analyst, Systems Analysts, Developers, Technicians and Specialists to meet the requirements of the business and performance standards (circa 20 FTE)

- Define objectives for the domain, and sets objectives and targets for functional teams within the domain

- Monitor and manage the performance of functional teams to meet performance standards

- Ensure staff engagement & satisfaction by holding regular 1:1 and team meetings, acting on and addressing key staff issues to build engagement and drive cultural change through the organisation

- Ensure talent is nurtured and career aspirations are supported

- Effectively plan resource requirements and succession

- IT Strategy Development and Roadmaps - continual development and change management

- Vendor management of all IT Suppliers and associated Service Contracts

- Accountability for all IT application and Infrastructure Development and Operations including customer-facing service platforms

- Achieving Operational KPI’s to ensure all IT services are delivered to budget, compliance and required performance

- Supporting New Product/Solutions development

- Accountable for the functions of the PMO; work demand management, prioritisation of projects, effective project management & project planning capability, accurate and timely reporting and communication

- Control of IT services - Cloud based Services, Servers, Networks, Security, Licensing, asset management

- Lifecycle management of all Technical Services

- Provision development and management platforms with capabilities for automating environment provisioning, configuration, deployment, performance & the associated tools, technologies and processes

- Driving change in line with the Company’s business plan and as part of the Technology Leadership Team

- Support the development of Technology Strategy both in and across domain

- Accountable for the delivery of operational performance of the technology systems within the defined responsibility of the domain

- Accountable for all aspects of planning, designing, building, operating and optimising of specific technology domain

- Accountable for supporting the relationship management with key customers

- Effectively delivers new products and services as required, working with the Head of Technical Strategy & Solutions and Product teams

- Provides strategic leadership to the Head of PMO in ensuring appropriate governance and management of portfolio and acting as a point of escalation where necessary

- Define and implement the overall technology domain program, structure, strategy and approach, including the operational delivery & support plan and interdependencies and critical success

- Manage 3rd Party relationships to ensure delivery across multiple operational functional areas

- In partnership with other areas of the business, identify areas of potential business transformation

- Drives innovative thinking into the organisation, looking for opportunities

- Ensure delivery of KPI framework agreed with the CTIO

- Accountable for monitoring performance against service targets, including modelling of future requirements and building capability

- Identifies and makes the decision on a course of action to resolve issues that affect the domain in the medium and long-term

- Prepare and present professional reports on strategic opportunities

- Responsible for appropriate management of all OPEX and CAPEX expenditure (>£4m), ensuring business benefits are achieved

- Working closely with Finance Business Partner to ensure clear reporting of expenditure and to capture and report benefits

- Challenging the cost and proficiency of existing systems and services, identifying replacement strategies with clearly outlined benefits

Key Requirements:

- Able to set a clear vision and connect with people at all levels to inspire and motivate;

- Is a people-focussed, cross-functional leader with experience of managing diverse teams;

- Has a broad commercial expertise, ideally within a Technology or IT organisation;

- Has senior management experience of leading in an IT Services, Telecoms, Data Centre, Hosting and Managed Services business (ideally all) or a leading telecom or IT vendor company;

- Has relevant experience of business application integration and automation of business processes e.g. ServiceNow, MS Dynamics 365, etc.

- An experienced technology leader, with the drive and energy to take the IT function forward, together with a strong track record of successful delivery in a developing and growing business;

- A strong leader who will generate respect and engage with people to achieve the business vision, while having the ability to communicate this vision confidently to all stakeholders, Shareholders, Government, the Regulator and people;

- Open minded, proactive and progressive, with a change-oriented approach and an appetite for addressing any legacy issues;

- Naturally looking to challenge the status quo to bring about positive change by supporting, developing and executing a clear technological strategy;

- Likely to hold significant industry recognised qualifications across IT (e.g. Agile, ITIL, etc) and PMO (e.g. Prince2, Six Sigma etc);

- Working knowledge of ISO27001 / GDPR compliance;

- Excellent relationship building capabilities;
