I am recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an Engineering Team working within the Defence sector on behalf of a global market leading engineering company that undertakes critical engineering work worldwide.
If you are an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, this is a perfect opportunity for you to lead the development of designs for mechanical handling equipment on submarines. Due to the nature of the projects, the role will require a high level of mechanical design expertise as well as a good understanding of concept, review design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Main purpose of role:
* Identifying design requirements and acceptance.
* Defining the design solution through 3D models, bill of, materials data and supporting documentation.
* Conducting design assurance activities to minimise technical risks, including scoping stress analysis, tolerance stack ups and interface management.
* Capturing design intent in "design set out" drawings and supporting documentation. ·
* Preparing information for, and presenting at, design reviews with specialist functions (such as manufacturing, safety) and chief engineers.
* Responsibility for time management to ensure work is conducted within agreed timescales and budgets.
* Guiding the work of other engineers and making technical decisions.
* Checking engineering drawings and documents.
Ideal requirements:
* Either a relevant HNC/HND qualification or first/further degree.
* Extensive 3D office design experience.
* To hold or be eligible to hold, Chartered Engineer status.
* Experience of customer (internal or external) interaction.
* An ability to lead a small team.
* Commercial awareness.
* An excellent, positive, attitude and work ethic.
* Suitable for SC clearance.
