Database Administrator | DBA | ADABAS | Natural

Hendon

Working within a high availability and a mission critical technology centre you will be responsible for the following:

* The installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of databases in order to meet SLA targets.

* To fulfil application maintenance and support of second-line functions often in close collaboration with software developers and/or with colleagues specialising in different areas, such as system administrators or network support engineers

Accountabilities

* Database Administration:Maintains procedures and documentation for database; Installing, upgrading and maintaining databases; Monitor database activities and resource usage; Optimise database performance and plan for forecast resource needs

* Provide Expert Advice: Provide second line support for all applications to ensure customer queries/problems are resolved.

* Incident Management: Part of a team rota providing 24x7 on-call support for all national applications and operational databases. This requires the ability to take responsibility for the diagnosis and resolution of critical problems without supervision, in order to ensure the availability of all national applications software / databases.

* Provide first-line support if there is a need to switch operations to the Disaster Recovery Site (DRS). As this is a support role, you will be required to occasionally work out of office hours.

* Planning and setting of priorities to meet project deadlines and achieve business objectives.

Essential Criteria

Database Administration

* Evidence of participating in daily administration of Databases, maintenance & upgrades of Databases, and Database Capacity Planning in ADABAS on Mainframe

Disaster Recovery (DR)

* Evidence of understanding concepts of DR and which components & utilities would be required to fulfil DR activity

Database Design, Performance & Tuning

* Understanding of how Natural commands translate to Adabas Database activity

* Evidence of File Design concepts

* Evidence of tool usage to assess database performance

* Evidence of ability to communicate to customers at all levels on Application performance related issues

Database Standby Activities

* Experience of Out of Hours Support

Knowledge Transfer & Mentoring

* Ability to assist other DBA colleagues in enriching procedures to fit 'Best Practices' & transferring knowledge.

Knowledge & Experience of BS2000

Proficient in MS Office Products, especially Word ,EXCEL and Project
