Main Activities

Design, build, deployment and operations of the environments required to run the services that we run on public cloud infrastructure using a continuous integration and continuous deployment approach that is flexible and can be tailored to meet the project delivery and business requirements.

Create, maintenance, monitoring and improvement of deployment pipelines to agreed standards, ensuring that deployment quality maintains a high standard.

Implementation and continuous improvement of the monitoring platforms for cloud based infrastructure. Monitor environments in accordance with the requirements of service management teams during live service to ensure our ICT Services operate within agreed SLAs.

Provide live service support, including issue resolution, problem determination, and identification of system improvements.

Provide support during the development lifecycle, including configuring development and testing environments. Assist the development team with debugging and troubleshooting platform-level problems.

Contribute to service reviews to ensure services meet key performance indicators and non-functional requirements such as availability, reliability and performance.

Establish working relationships with the relevant stakeholders both internally and externally at the appropriate technical and/or management levels to understand the internal and external user needs in order to ensure the continuous integration and continuous deployment approach is in line with best practice.

Be involved in the wider digital community, identifying good practices that can adopted and sharing of our experiences e.g. through blogging, meetups and conferences. Champion the DevOps practices and principles within the DevOps function, within projects and wider across the DDaT and its stakeholders.

Mentor other team members in areas of technology improvements and best practice.

Ensure that our technologies, systems and platform architectures are robust, scalable, open and secure, with appropriate integration points to deliver a high quality user experience.

Assist to drive the use of common technology platforms and the use of IT Shared Services in line with Government ICT strategy.

Take ownership for obtaining the information required to diagnose and resolve complex problems. Engage with third parties to jointly resolve in-depth product issues where necessary. Proactively analyses information and trends, proposing action to resolve problems, maintain and enhance service.

As part of an operational team be available on rota basis to undertake out of hours activities to support the services operated by the Solution Design and Technology practice.

Essential Skills

* Good educational background. Educated to degree level or equivalent, with appropriate ICT qualifications.

* Good knowledge in continuous integration and continuous deployment practices and tooling.

* Good knowledge of deployment and management of cloud applications and services on public cloud Infrastructure.

* Good understanding of key technologies including major proprietary technologies and open source software.

* Good understanding of government strategies, policies and standards in relation to delivering IS/IT systems, organisations, strategies and processes

Essential experience

* Good experience deploying cloud based applications and services.

* Good knowledge of software development, configuration and integration tooling and practices

* Good experience of creating and managing the automated software build and release lifecycle.

* Good experience of implementing automated test cycles.

* Good experience of managing multiple environments within application development and delivery.

* Good experience of supporting business critical applications

* Good experience of working within an agile environment.

* Good experience of mentoring team members

* Experience with Microsoft stack Application Lifecycle Management tooling including

oMicrosoft Azure including

oMicrosoft Windows Server 2012/14 Administration with Active Directory, ADFS, Domain Controllers and WSUS

oMicrosoft SQL Server and T-SQL

oMicrosoft Team Foundation Server

oMicrosoft Visual Studio including .NET C# program language

oPowerShell scripts and Desired State Configuration (DSC)

* Experience with the open source stack for Application Lifecycle Management tooling.

* Experience of container based deployment tools for example Docker
