Lead Informatics Developer - Pipeline/R&D

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with excellent technical leadership skills to build a team, focusing on this domain within Double Negative’s Production Technology department. You will be responsible for driving the design, planning and development of these systems, which will be used by artists throughout the facility on the exceptional VFX work ranging from blockbuster epics to television dramas.
As the Lead Informatics Developer you will be responsible for leading a team of software developers to create new systems for how we categorise, search, transform and re-purpose the digital assets used by our production teams in VFX, Feature Animation and TV. Key components of these systems are methods for search via semantic labelling, multi-domain categorisation (taxonomies with various terms), efficient faceted search; data-specific descriptor based searching and automated data transformation. The team's initial focus will be partaking in a multi-year, multiorganisation EU funded project (SAUCE).
These services will be exposed in various interfaces and be used by thousands of Double Negative artists, globally. It will also provide key functionality to be used by other development teams in areas such as AI-based semantic extraction and labelling, and synthesis of novel crowd animation. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, artist representatives and key members of the EU project to determine the development roadmap for this work and to understand their needs and requirements.
Our Lead Developers are highly technical and are enthusiastic leaders. You will be regularly required to:
establish technical requirements and specifications for the project
ensure that appropriate software development practices are followed by your team contribute to the design, development and delivery of tooling for endusers
work with a project manager to manage your team’s workload and manage the expectations of key stakeholders
ensure that bug reports and support requests are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
Must have:
A Masters degree in Informatics, Data Engineering or similar subject; or equivalent industry experience
Extensive experience designing and deploying similar systems
Demonstrable experience leading a team of software engineers
Practical experience with semantic labelling, graph databases, taxonomies, faceted search, OWL, RDF, SPARQL
Nice to have:
Experience with designing and deploying micro-services
Working knowledge of additional programming languages
Experience with descriptor based search (e.g. SIFT)
Experience with data-replication
