Head of Data Evidence and Insights

In 2016, the RNLI launched lifeboats 8,851 times, rescuing 23 people every day and saving a total of 558 lives. To further our vital work both in the UK and globally, we trained and equipped more than 6,100 lifesavers, allowing us to provide a 24-hour rescue service across the UK and Ireland, and pilot schemes in Bangladesh, Tanzania and Zanzibar. Since 1824, we have directly saved more than 142,200 lives and prevented countless tragedies by educating people about safety at sea and on the coast.

In 2016 we stated our intent to reduce drowning in the UK and Ireland by 50%, and to have a significant impact on drowning globally. We have started this exciting new path. However, this will only happen if we work on new programmes and with a variety of partners both domestically and globally. All of this must be evidence-led. 

The Head of Data Evidence and Insights is a new and exciting role that will lead the RNLI’s intention to be an Evidence-led culture. You will deliver inspired customer-oriented insights to help us make better decisions - and save even more lives. At the same time, you will be a catalyst for innovation, driving efficiency, cost savings and new approaches to everything we do. Your impact cannot be overstated. In particular, this newly created position focuses on effective data governance, the standardisation of information and analytics, and the adoption of new skills and techniques - whatever it takes to give us truly exceptional management information.

To be considered, you will need:

- Experience of implementing the transition to an evidence-led culture in an organisation 

- Strong data and information strategy development and implementation experience 

- Team leadership and development experience 

- Experience of information strategy, strategic technology planning and execution and policy development and maintenance 

- Previous experience of creating and embedding competencies for data and insights within a new department 

- Familiarity with business information generation and analysis methods 

- A degree level qualification in a related discipline, ideally data science 

A natural manager and strategic thinker, as the Head of Data Evidence and Insights, you will be capable of making persuasive presentations, harnessing cutting-edge technology and above all, redefining the role of data. Finally, it goes without saying that you will share our passion for protecting people from the sea - and share our vision of information as a life-saving tool.

The closing date for applications is the 19th February 2018. Initial interviews are set to be held on the week commencing 26th February 2018 with second interviews on the 9th March 2018.
