Java Developer / Scala Developer (AKKA Kafka TDD Scala Java 8 Hadoop). Award winning energy provider that is revolutionising consumer energy markets, delivering savings and greener energy for approaching one million households across the UK is seeking a skilled software developer with strong Scala and Java 8 skills.

As a Java Developer / Scala Developer you will use a range of technologies working on a Greenfield project to deliver a cloud based platform that reports real-time data from hundreds of thousands of smart meters feeding into a Big Data platform. The technology stack is based on Cassandra, Java 8, REST, Scala, AKKA, Hadoop, Spark with JavaScript front end; the work is interesting and challenging.

The company is a technical innovator, supports a coding charity, sponsors regular tech conferences and is starting an open source initiative. As a Java Developer you'll be joining a highly talented Agile development team that encourages knowledge sharing and close collaboration using XP, Pair Programming and TDD; you'll have the freedom, autonomy and responsibility to suggest technical changes and make sure they happen.

Requirements:

*Passionate technologist with strong Java 8 and Scala coding skills

*Experience building high performance systems

*Experience with high volume / transactional web based systems (eCommerce / gaming experience is desirable)

*Good knowledge of computing fundamentals such as Data Structures, algorithms, OOP, SOA

*Good knowledge of REST, JSON, XML, integration frameworks (Spring, Camel or Mule)

*Continuous Integration (Jenkins, Git, yum, Nexus, Chef)

*Desirable: AKKA, Hadoop, Spark
