You’ll get stuck into a wealth of fascinating projects as a Big Data Developer. Sainsbury’s is rich in data collected from consumers, suppliers and colleagues. In this data transformation role, you’ll turn all kinds of raw data into meaningful information with real business impact.

Every day, you’ll carry out solution development using a host of models, processes, standards and principles. Your work will span data ingestion and data transformation, and you’ll support both standard solution development and rapid discovery, prototyping and data science.

Making a difference in a fast-moving environment, you’ll be recognised for your skills in working across a mix of traditional RDBMS, Big Data and new open source platforms - and for your passion to produce work with real impact. The data you deliver will be crucial in driving analytics and insights into the business. Put simply, you will help us understand things we didn’t know about our business and customers.

It’s all part of our ambitious mission to get to know our customers better than everybody else, so we can do the right thing for them. The work you do will inform all kinds of important changes - from how we work with suppliers, to how we sell our products to customers and help them live well for less.

The ability to deliver great solutions is a big part of what you’ll need to succeed. Together with technical skills in Hadoop and traditional ETL tools, your knowledge spans everything from Spark and Impala to Python and Teradata. But just as important is your flair for working with people. A real team player, you’ll proactively suggest new ideas for ways we can do things better. Crucially, you’ll develop a great relationship with the end user community. You’ll help them to appreciate all the ways we can help them transform data, change ways of working, and revolutionise our business.
