We are looking for Engineers that have a range of blended skills that include Network and Security experience to help support world class digital services where you'll be part of a team delivering both service excellence and agile change. You will be supporting the programme that migrates legacy technology onto new, cloud-based platforms that shape and deliver up to 50 projects of varying size, risk and complexity paving the way for the future business and service transformation.

So far 2017 has been an exciting year in DVLA IT Services, where we are continuing the major transformation of our legacy estate utilising an in-house developed and supported set of services. Our services will have the reach to every household in the UK, the size and scale would be the envy of any UK ecommerce service provider, so it will be a fabulous opportunity to make a difference for us and for you.

You will have knowledge in a range of activities of a Security Operations Centre (SOC) including using a SIEM (security incident and event management) tool to monitor network traffic and user behaviour for potentially malicious activity. Investigating security events and anomalous patterns of activity and responding to alerts and handling incidents. You will have practical experience of using LogRhythm, (though we will exceptionally consider experience with other SIEM tools to the extent that it is relevant) and ideally also some experience of Clearswift content filters and Tufin. We expect that such knowledge will be evidenced, such as by possession of relevant qualifications (e.g. certification as a SOC analyst), though evidence of actual practical application will also be pursued. You will have a real understanding of risk, and have experience of making security relevant decisions based on assessing risks. You will be a strong advocate for change and continuous improvement, recognising the benefits of promoting a change culture within your team

You will have the opportunity to:-

* Demonstrate knowledge of a technical specialism

* Hands on experience investigating and handling security incidents

* Analyse and resolve service delivery issues

* Work on your own initiative

* Follow and/or contribute to the development of documented processes

* Monitor technology performance and identify opportunities to improve it - continual improvement ethos

* Facilitate small and large changes - working alongside DVLA's Architecture community

* Develop and maintain good relationships with stakeholders across the business

* Work as part of a team to provide knowledge, help and advice

* Develop own skills and actively coach and develop others

* Develop an understanding of DVLA's services

Candidates will be required to work within a shift system covering 24 hours per day 7 days a week. A Shift allowance of 35% is applicable as cover for the 24/7 service. An example shift pattern is available on request.

You should note that although your initial working pattern will be as quoted above, the Agency reserves the right to alter, or modify these hours, on appropriate notice, should the need arise.
