Server Migration Engineer - Milton Keynes - 4 months £220-£225p/d

VMware, P2V, V2V, Windows, Active Directory, private Cloud

Seeking a Server Migration Engineer to plan schedule and complete Service Migrations from current data centre to private cloud data centre. This is a mixture of new build, P2V, V2V and lift and shift. The target environment is a VMware mix of physical, VMware, and XEN.

The successful contractor will be responsible for

* Responsible for completing documentation regarding each group of servers (inventory, application interfaces, shut down and start up processes etc)

* Responsible for liaising with users to identify suitable outage windows for migration activities (to be formally requested via Change Management)

* Liaison with users to identify application testers and tests to complete before and after migration

* Documenting the proposed migration method and steps involved per server group (cut over plan)

* Responsible for raising change requests for migration preparation and migration activities

* Executing certain technical migration activities (performing P2V, V2V etc)

* Coordinating other technical team members to complete their migration activities as specified in the cut over plan

* Liaising with business testers to complete tests

* Handover to Server Operations for BAU once migration complete

Must have

* Strong documentation and communication skills

* Good technical knowledge of the considerations when moving servers from one location to another

* Experience of performing P2V conversions (eg using VMware converter and other tools)

* Migrations will be outside core hours and you should expect to work 2pm - 10pm however this will not be 100% of the time and working within normal hours is also expected. certain migrations (eg weekend evenings or overnight). Working hours can be adjusted when no migration is taking place
