An Infrastructure Engineer is needed to join our Digital Information and Technology Services client based in Didcot, south Oxfordshire. This new Infrastructure Engineer vacancy has come about due to organic business growth and a subsequent increased headcount within the IT and Infrastructure Team. The position of Infrastructure Engineer is an important role and will see the successful Infrastructure Engineer working alongside other existing support team in maintaining the infrastructure which supports both the companies’ day to day business activities across multiple sites including and the vast array of hardware located in the data centre.

The main Responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer will include:

                                         To provide support and maintained of both Windows and Linux servers in the offices and datacentre

                                         Maintenance and support of the virtual environment

                                         Support of the mail & DNS infrastructure (BIND, Windows DNS, Exchange, Sendmail)

                                         Configure and maintain load balancers and systems monitoring application

                                         Maintenance and support of the SAN systems

                                         Provide support for all switches and firewalls across the network including site to site and dynamic VPNs.

                                         Develop robust systems documentation to aide to the support of the group infrastructure

                                         To provide third line support for members of the frontline support team and assistance to other members of the infrastructure team

                                         Assist along with members of the infrastructure and support team to provide and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans of the organisation.

You will have the opportunity to work on and gain experience with the following technologies (In order of importance):

                                         MS Windows 2008/20012 servers

                                         Active Directory infrastructure

                                         Microsoft Exchange 2007/2013

                                         Linux systems administration and support; Redhat or Centos experience desirable

                                         VMware or other virtualisation environments

                                         Cisco switching and routing, including troubleshooting. In particular multi-site environments using WAN/LAN, client and site to site VPNs, and wireless networking

                                         SAN maintenance and support

                                         IIS 6 and 7 and/or Apache/Tomcat

                                         Systems monitoring tools, such as Nagios

                                         MySQL database administration, and working knowledge of SQL Server

                                         Backup and recovery - Symantec Backup Exec and Veeam

                                         Traffic Managers/Load Balancer management

As you can see from the technologies involved, there is plenty of scope within the role to expand you technical knowledge and capabilities. This Infrastructure Engineer position is ideally suited to candidates with strong Windows (and Linux infrastructure support and is suitable for candidates who come from the following backgrounds: IT Support Analyst, Systems Administrator, 2nd Line Engineer, 3rd Line Engineer, Server, Wintel or Data Centre Support and many more.

This role is located near Didcot, south Oxfordshire in a beautiful countryside location. It is easily commutable from Reading, Newbury, Swindon, Shrivenham, Wallingford, Oxford, Thame, High Wycombe, Bicester and many more.
