Negotiating new trade agreements and withdrawal from the EU, ensuring that appropriate systems are in place at the border following EU Exit. Protecting the environment. Supporting the farming and fishing industries. Ensuring we are prepared for natural threats and hazards. These are the type of important issues that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) takes responsibility for and are just some of the issues that we will be rethinking as the UK leaves the European Union.

As a Grade 7 Analyst in Defra's growing Operational Research community, you will work closely with policy professionals and economists. Bringing together evidence from within and outside Government, you will deliver high-quality analysis and guide decision-making within the EU Exit and International Trade Directorate. You may find yourself supporting briefings to Ministers and senior officials. We will look to you to focus on key areas relating to the future of trade in agricultural, food and other products after the UK leaves the EU. Within Trade Operations, you will lead on analysis to support decisions on getting the right systems, processes, resources and infrastructure in place.

A flexible, analytical problem solver; you will relish this opportunity to get to grips with a wide range of complex challenges, whilst managing a small team. You will possess a range of technical skills and experience including techniques for problem structuring & solving and quantitative operational research. The ability to prioritise and organise your work to meet short deadlines is vital. Equally important will be your collaborative approach, working across Defra and with other government departments.
