Application Support Engineer - London - DV Clearance

DURATION: 6 - 12 Months Contract with the option for further contract renewals

Role Profile

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and experienced Application Support Engineer to join an innovative team of experts responsible for supporting applications and providing 2nd and 3rd line support to a messaging system which is based on the C# language and .NET framework. In addition to this the team also provides support to various other in-house Enterprise Small Systems.

Your primary responsibility is to provide support for the application and the messaging system which is responsible for delivering messaging to recipients in a timely manner and in a format that can be handled by intermediary or end point IT Systems.

You will need to troubleshoot and diagnose issues relating to these systems using custom log files, windows utilities and in-house utilities. You will also be required to carry out modifications, including code fixes to the system as part of Continuous Service Improvement. There is a requirement in the future to provide an on-call service on a rota basis, which may require a site visit, during out of office hours (including weekends).

Candidate Profile

To join this growing team, we require candidates who have proven ability to learn new skills, work using their own initiatives and can prioritise requirements in line with the departmental objectives.

You will need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all users and teams across the business as part of the support process.

Required skills:

* .NET Development (3.5, 4.0, 4.5) preferably using C# and Visual Studio 2010, 2012. It is not essential to be an expert in the language but would be necessary to be at least comfortable in reading code and communicating with developers;

* SQL Server (2008, 2012) development. Must be able to use Management studio to create/modify database objects. Some experience reading Stored Procedures and T-SQL. Must be comfortable writing basic queries to retrieve information from databases.

* XML development using XSLT, XPATH, etc. Must understand the fundamentals such as Schemes and DTD. Some experience in writing XSL transformations is essential. Must be comfortable in reading and modifying XSL templates.

* Basic understanding of Web technologies including XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. Must at least understand HTML structure and how to author a HTML document.

* Comfortable in a Windows Server 2008, 2012 environment. Able to perform basic admin tasks. Must be able to use utilities such as Event Viewer and Command Prompt. Understanding of Windows Permissions would be highly beneficial.

* Basic PowerShell Scripting. Nice to have but not essential.

* Experience of Messaging Systems (Email). Nice to have but not essential.
