Automation Test Analyst

Part of the larger C&IT team aligned within the Desktop Operations (DTO) group of HMRC's Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO), the C&IT Worthing team specialises in the provision of systems based on Oracle Fusion middleware, Java and messaging. The business areas supported are involved in the risk assessing of goods imported into the UK, excise duties and VAT. The systems communicate with tax authorities in the EU. Two of the systems are maintained on a 24 hour, seven day a week basis.

C&IT Worthing has adopted an Agile and DevOps approach to delivery and live support. The team are expecting to move to a cloud based delivery approach in the near future.

About the role

A technically proficient tester who will provide test support and services across a number of high profile projects out of the C&IT Worthing Delivery Centre and to our Live service support team.

This role will involve producing deliverables from a technical test specialism in line with the C&IT Worthing Test Strategy. All C&IT Worthing testing is done through test automation; this is not a manual test role.

Tasks include:

* Requirement analysis

* User story acceptance criteria design

* Test planning and test estimation

* Test design and test automation development

* Test data creation and maintenance

* Test tool and environment setup, configuration, and maintenance

* Test execution

* Test progress and completion reporting

* Actively supporting and feeding into the cycle of continuous improvement

Mandatory criteria

In addition to excellent interpersonal skills with a positive 'can do' attitude the successful candidate will have proven experience in the following:

* Proven experience and knowledge of working with automated test tools, in particular SoapUI

* Demonstrable experience of working with SQL

* Collaborative team-working

* Ability to work autonomously

* Attention to detail.

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and experience of some of the following would also be beneficial:

* Working in SOA environment

* Working in a Cloud environment

* Use of BPMN

* Use of Atlassian tool set (i.e. Jira/ Confluence)

* Use of 'Cucumber'

* Experience of dealing with 3rd-party suppliers

* Experience of Import, Export, Customs and Excise business

* Experience in business/requirements analyst

* The application and use of Agile and Lean concepts at scale

* Promoting a positive work culture, and maintaining successful working relationships with other team members and the Delivery Group as whole

* Coaching and mentoring team members performing business analysis activities.
