The role holder will require good interpersonal skills and high levels of energy and a willingness to work with multiple suppliers and stakeholders to confirm requirements and licencing status, and implementing disciplined Information Management practices. You will be pivotal in delivering the implementation of the transition plan for each new Service or Capability by taking responsibility for release and deployment whether related to through life capability or problem management with users and support teams at various sites.

Main Duties:

Configuration Manager:

* Support maintenance of the Configuration Management (CM) and Data management (DM) Plans, ensuring on-going compliance with Customer and Organisational requirements

* Maintain the CMDB in accordance with the ISS Configuration Management System

* Administer Configuration and Data management in accordance with the above plans

* Support the Programme by maintaining the regime for CM and DM with the customer and Subcontractors and regularly report on progress

* Support Engineering to correctly identify HW (Hardware) and SW (Software) Configuration Items using the Programme's CM tools

* Maintain CM baselines of both HW and SW throughout the design lifecycle and ISS

* Support Supply Chain by generating documentation to support licence renewals needed to maintain the hardware and software configuration baseline

* Administer Configuration Control, at the Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), facilitating Joint CCBs where necessary. Establish and agree with all necessary parties classification and sentencing of change

* Create, Issue and maintain Configuration Status Records and the Configuration Status Account in support of the Programme specific requirements

* Support ISS Configuration Manager in engaging with stakeholders and tracking changes to configuration across the enterprise.

* Initiate renewal requests and support the renewals process as directed by the ISS Configuration Manager and produce reports and data as required

Release Manager:

* With Service Design, Transition and Operations, create plans for deploying each release

* Define and build the release package, including test requirements and the related design and document management library, ensuring its integrity (and that of its constituent components) and agree with customers and stakeholders

* Co-ordinate and manage the deployment of the release package into the Service

* Ensure new or changed services deliver agreed capability and ensure knowledge transfer has taken place, by collecting feedback and reviewing performance achievement against targets and capture Learning From Experience (LFE) to pass to CSI.

* Liaising with incident management to identify problems and minimising the impact on the business of problems caused by underlying IT infrastructure, pro-actively preventing recurrence by working with service design and CSI to eliminate or ameliorate the issues

* Create and manage the Known Error Record to identify and record the root cause of problems to ensure that their resolution is managed and can be used to improve performance, using recognised techniques.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

* Good communicator both written and verbal at all levels

* Willingness to work flexibly in order to support operational needs and travel on an occasional basis.

* Appropriate engineering degree or equivalent.

* Thorough knowledge and first-hand experience of all areas of the systems engineering lifecycle, with a comprehensive understanding of ITIL release and deployment and problem management processes, including a detailed working knowledge of Def Stan 05-57 and ITIL

* Disciplined and rigorous approach to engineering and ability to ask challenging questions about the requirements and implementation details

* Track record of delivering work packages to cost, schedule and quality

Desirable:

* CMII Certification.

* Self-motivated attitude - able to work functionally alone in a programme team to meet programme requirements.

* Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.

* Experience of ITAR regulations.

* Ability to work independently and to ensure that Key Performance Indicators are met.

* ITIL Service Transition or Service Operations certified

* Experience of commercial and government IT Security environments and requirements
