A great opportunity has now arisen for a Information Security Manager to join the ICT Team.

You will also be able to develop your network by enacting with other security colleagues within the Natural Environment Research Council.

The cyber and information security landscape is fluid and national and international security policies change constantly. The IT Department must respond accordingly and you will be a highly influential figure in anticipating and managing these changes in order to obtain the best possible outcome for BAS in all cases.

Good cyber essentials knowledge

Ability to provide solutions aligned to business processes and emerging priorities

Strong management and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively contribute and lead within a cross functional department

Purpose

To provide the focus for Information Security at BAS, working as part of the IT Team, carrying out security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems.

- Monitoring of information sources (such as vendor advisories, mailing lists, etc.) for vulnerability and patch information.

- Detection and notification of vulnerable assets.

- Tracking of remediation efforts.

- Take the lead in network architecture development and strategy.

Qualification

A degree in Computer Science or Informatics, a Certified Information System Security Professional qualification or substantial work experience at a level demonstrating graduate ability.

Duties

To work with stakeholders at BAS and across NERC to develop relationships to help promote and improve information security and effectively implement NERC information security policies across BAS.

To promote security awareness by developing and implementing a security awareness and training programme.

To act as the first point of contact within BAS for security incidents. This entails to investigate suspected and actual security incidents, produce reports with recommendations and ensure any remedial action is taken.

To develop, monitor and update local IT security policies. To ensure BAS staff are aware of the policies and respond to them.

To work across IT platforms and communication systems to provide security guidance as new platforms are introduced.

To attend meetings as required including events within BAS and NERC. To represent BAS at IT forums.

To maintain and administer internal and perimeter security systems and solutions.

To deliver, introduce and implement IT security systems.

To provide direction and support in addressing security related issues and projects.

To provide input to networking architecture ensuring our infrastructure is secure and meets the needs of BAS.

To take ownership of network architecture, ensuring the future needs of BAS are met.

To keep abreast of emerging technologies and sharing knowledge with colleagues.

To respond to users’ support tickets and resolve issues promptly, and within defined SLA’s

To partake in developing and communicating the strategic direction of the department.

To undertake any other duties as appropriate and as requested by the BAS Director.
