Senior Project Manager

My client based in Swindon requires a Senior Project Manager

Purpose of role:

- The Senior Project Manager will be accountable for playing a principle role in leading business critical projects (global, regional, or functional) which support the strategic aims of the business.

- This purpose of this role is to lead, manage or input to specific projects and activities on behalf of the Transformation & Integration Director and/or Regional Vice President for Automotive Europe & Africa.

By leading day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of (multiple) and/or large-scale projects of strategic significance the Senior Project Manager will be minimising our exposure and risk across the respective projects.

Key Results/ Accountabilities expected from role

This role holder must:

- Independently lead 'business critical' strategic projects (global, regional, or functional) which support the strategic aims of the business. Proactively anticipates issues/barriers versus project plan and develop appropriate actions in support of business goals/aims. Also anticipates project risk (people, resources, money) and identifies solutions before problems can escalate

- Effectively understands and applies the skills necessary to develop and lead the writing of FM’s, constructing basic financial frameworks, managing project budgets, and following up on project metrics. Works with Group Treasury, if necessary, for the production of Strategic Finance Notes (SFNs). Autonomously progresses these documents through stakeholder approval

- Independently tracks project progress against schedule and monitors against quality standards. Delivers projects in scope, on time, on budget. Responsible for managing significant project budgets and working closely to assure project performance targets are effectively managed during the life of the project.

- Actively seeks out and secures stakeholder engagement at all levels in the organisation and acts on advice from sponsors, supervisor, or HR as appropriate. Effectively establish, manage and lead project governance structure and show the necessary skills to lead and inform a governance body of progress.

- Manages the human relations part of project teams

- Independently identifies new ways of working both across the OU and within the team and leads the change to improve business efficiency and process efficiency

- Applies Project Management techniques and tools with rigour. Serves as a role model to other project team members and other project managers by using sound project management principles, as well as the project management tools and standards that have been adopted by BP. Supports other team members as required. Consistently demonstrate and show others the BP values and behaviours necessary to drive business results. Openly accept feedback and new perspectives for self-development. Be seen as a driver of team spirit and cooperation.

- Networks and interacts positively and powerfully with other BP stakeholders as well as external parties

- To contribute to the management/development of the portfolio of projects run by the wider S&T team through the PPM process. Ensure our PM processes are consistently embedded and applied within our organization. Actively manage our department processes, managing the methods we all use to track projects (Roadmapper).

- Represent the Transformation Manager at critical meetings and other governance bodies as required.

- Lead Organizational Learning around Project Management. Support Fundamentals of Project Management. Lead training internally as a PM refresher course for people who were trained in PM but need to be brought back up to speed. Also, provide leadership/sponsor session(s) to reinforce what they need to do if they are Sponsor of a project.

Key term challenges faced in the role

- Delivery of specific strategic projects in support of the OU Road Map. These projects will vary in duration and complexity and at times the Senior Project Manager will be expected to run a number of projects in parallel.

- The Senior Project Manager will be expected to operate with a level of significant level of autonomy and to act as a mentor to more junior Project Managers - both within and outside the T&I team.

Experience & Expertise (mandatory & desired)

Essential

- Minimum 5 yrs experience leading multi-discipline projects with a solid understanding of project planning, tracking, control, communications & estimating.

- Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.

- 5+ yrs in a lead commercial position ideally within Lubes business.

- Must have a strong willingness to personally develop and apply core Project Management skills, including gaining external Project Management Qualifications

- Proven competencies in development of project financial frameworks, managing project budgets, and tracking project metrics

- Proven track record of project delivery & closing out projects upon completion to sponsor and organizational satisfaction

- Demonstrable ability to interpret commercial & legal aspects of contracts &/or project strategies.

- Understands how to effectively negotiate a contract with input from BP legal & impacted business groups/functions.

- In-depth understanding of how the business works and demonstrates the ability & understanding of interrelationships and business process.

- Demonstrates ability to manage complexity and has the ability to manage conflict/disputes to the satisfaction of the business/project.

- Understands and applies the role of project governance
