Civil Engineering Standards Manager - £25-35k - FTSE100 Global Organisation

The main purpose of the role is to provide assistance and assurance to the Professional Head of Design and Engineering Compliance, in all Permanent Way and Civil Engineering matters to ensure that all parts of the Company comply with legislation and that catastrophic risk is controlled. The role would suit an experienced rail engineer or a graduate at the start of their career looking to develop a career within rail.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Responsible for the technical review of legislation, standards and specifications (broadly defined) so that matters (principally, changes in substance or interpretation) that may have a material affect on the Company's activities are identified in a clear and timely fashion.

* Responsible for the promulgation of review findings to all the Rail Division's offices whose activities may be materially affected.

* Assist in the provision of technical support to the Rail Division to enable an assessment of the commercial impact of review findings and for technical recommendations arising from inquiries and investigations.

* Interface and maintain liaison with key clients. Respond to all enquiries from them within the agreed timescale with regard to legislation, standards and specifications.

* Manage the review and approval of discipline specific Procedures and Work Instructions.

* Participate in the identification and development of new Procedures and Work Instructions.

* Responsible for the maintenance of the Company's Permanent Way, Civil Engineering and Track Welding Procedures and provide custodianship of these.

* Assist with the Professional Head of Design and Engineering Compliance to deliver an audit programme aimed at providing assurance that the Company's activities are compliant with its Procedures and Work Instructions (and thus with legislation, standards and specifications). Assist in the provision of technical support with the Professional Head of Design and Engineering Compliance, necessary to enable the Rail Division to plan and deliver remedial actions, subsequent on instances of non-compliance.

* Assist with the provision of specialist Permanent Way, Civil Engineering and Track Welding support services to the Company's Board and to Inquiry Boards with expert advice on Corporate Standards and Company Procedures. Interface and maintain liaison with all Permanent Way, Civil Engineering and Track Welding staff to provide Procedural and Standards briefing material in a consistent and formulated manner.

* Assist in the review of best practice in Permanent Way, Civil Engineering and Track Welding and support the promulgation of appropriate best practice to Babcock's Rail Division. Participate in research and innovation in Civil Engineering, both internally and externally and promulgate results within the Company.

* Manage the Company's programme for the validation and authorisation of the technical content of training courses developed and/or employed by the Company in the field of Permanent Way, Civil Engineering and Track Welding.

* Able to act on behalf of the Professional Head of Design and Engineering Compliance when directed or required.

Qualifications required:

* Minimum 5 years railway technical experience or a graduate looking to develop a career within the rail sector

* Knowledge of operational railway and associated safety matters

* Experience and knowledge of Track Renewals techniques

* HND or equivalent in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
