Position: Historic Environment Data Consultant
Location: Talgarth, Brecon Beacons National Park
Salary: £22,000 - £40,000 + Overtime

The Company:
Our client is a well-established and respected software consultancy with an impressive portfolio of predominantly mapping and database applications used in the environmental and conservation sectors. They have no marketing or sales staff and their continued growth (presently 36 staff) is based largely on the recommendation of existing clients.

They are a Microsoft Partner and so work predominantly, but not exclusively, with Microsoft technologies. They also make extensive use of open source technologies, particularly around mapping. In the end, they simply decide on the most appropriate tools for the particular project and client.

The Data Consultant Role:
The Data Consultant position will be based within the small and busy Historic Environment team. This team divides its time between developing and supporting the HBSMR product and its client-base, and working on bespoke heritage-focussed projects.

HBSMR (Historic Buildings Sites & Monuments Record) is the UK’s leading database & GIS application for the management of Historic Environment Records, used by over 75 organisations. In addition to an ever-increasing client base, the application is being continually improved with annual maintenance releases and new modules, and you will work within the team that makes this happen.

Increasingly they are building web and mobile applications around HBSMR and other cultural and heritage datasets, and helping to specify, develop, test and support such systems is an important part of the role.

Key Responsibilities:
To undertake software installations and upgrades at client sites across the UK and on internal application serversTo complete data migrations from a variety of client platformsTo develop custom components and configurations for clientsTo deliver training courses in the training suite and in client premisesTo provide remote technical support to clientsTo contribute to technical developments through the production of development specifications, testing and production of manualsTo attend appropriate conferences and undertake sales-related activity as required, including the production of quotations and tender submissionsTo ensure that administrative issues are quickly and efficiently dealt withTo play a part in the development of HBSMR and related development projects, depending on skills and experience Skills & Experience Required:
Essential;
In-depth SQL Server and MS Access skills with understanding of database structures and principles (likely to have been acquired through at least two years of experience)GIS use, configuration and analysis experience, preferably including ArcGIS, MapInfo and QGISHeritage information management experience, or experience gained in another environmental management related disciplineGraduate qualifications in archaeology, another environmental discipline, and/or an IT disciplineConfident presentational and client-facing skillsThe maturity to be self-organised and motivatedA driving licence Desirable;
Familiarity with a variety of operating systems and networksSQL Server (or similar RDBMS) database administration experienceGIS scripting experienceProgramming experienceWeb design experiencePost-graduate qualifications in an archaeological, environmental or IT disciplineExperience of working on or managing a Historic Environment Record or similar information system Remuneration:
You can expect a salary of £22,000 - £40,000 (dependent on skills and experience). They don’t expect you to work ‘whatever hours are needed’ either - they pay for overtime.
