Lead GCP DevOps Engineer
London / Remote
£75,000 - £110,000 per annum

Im looking for a Lead GCP DevOps Engineer who would be open to a new & exciting challenge with a global insurer on a permanent basis. The role only requires you to come into the office once per week and offer a competitive salary + bonuses + benefits.


* Builds components, systems, and features to create and improve our cloud platform services. Focusing on availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency.
* Develops solutions and services with embedded security controls, engineered to mitigate security threats as a core feature.
* Constructs cloud platform tooling/services, adopting DevSecOps practices, to deliver resilient and secure services. * Designs automation solutions for full infrastructure deployment; assists with compatibility and integration testing required for connecting with other devices.
* Writes scripts/code to support our platform, including developing Terraform/Docker files for various systems/frameworks.
* Provides technical support, resolving complex platform use and configuration issues.
* Offers feedback to project teams on platform usage; supports routine monitoring activities.
* Advises developers on system usage and configures CI/CD pipelines.
* Collaborates with developers to ensure adherence to established processes and smooth functioning through deployment pipelines from development to production in a cloud-based environment.
* Builds robust automated delivery tooling for product teams, providing input and expertise into tool selection and ongoing improvements in Pipelining, CI/CD, Automation, and Monitoring.
* Engages in code development and review.
* Reviews code, troubleshoots, and executes virtualization and integration strategies while prioritizing security, reliability, and scalability, following appropriate standards and policies, utilizing a variety of open-source technologies and cloud services.
* Encourages innovation and collaboration.
* Develops applications/tools/services and features, seeking opportunities for continuous improvement, optimization, and innovation in technology services.
* Collaborates with multidisciplinary product teams, providing expertise and insights across various functions and market units.
* Develops assets, ensuring all components are up-to-date, driving cloud adoption and incorporating technical improvements into the overall product backlog.
* Utilizes automation design and infrastructure knowledge to determine appropriate automation and implement large-scale sustainable, intelligent automation in a cross-functional environment.

* Educated to minimum of degree level in engineering, computer science or related technology discipline
* Minimum 6 years experience as a DevOps, software or SRE engineer
* GCP certifications(s) or equivalent highly regarded
* Strong engineering practices, especially automation
* "hands on" knowledge of Google Cloud including networking compute storage security
* Experience with automation tools such as Terraform
* Experience with static code analysis & security scanning pipelines and associated tooling
* Experience implementing configuration management and CI/CD tooling
* Experience implementing centralised monitoring solutions including logging, monitoring, alerting
* Experience with automation
* Experience with Kubernetes /docker or similar containerisation
* Experience with languages such as Python, Groovy, Bash, Java
* Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to listen, present and communicate solutions clearly and concisely with technical audiences

Additional skills desired:

* Experience Influencing, coaching mentoring
* Experience & hands on knowledge of Unix/Linux
* Experience of working within Agile frameworks including Scrum and Kanban
* Experience with version control and branching strategies, e.g., trunk-based development,
* Experience with automated testing for infrastructure
* Experience with building zero downtime solutions, including blue/green deployments
* Knowledge of TLS and mTLS
* Knowledge of at least one RDBMS e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
* Educated to minimum of degree level in computer engineering, or relevant experience
* Recognise the importance of technology in meeting sustainability and carbon reduction targets and act positively to support CRS initiatives
