A leading premium automotive business and leading to move towards electric autonomous vehicles.WHAT TO EXPECTWe are currently hiring for someone to join an energetic and driven team within JLR in the position of a Powertrain Systems Lead Engineer. Within this position, you will lead the resolution of issues that arise within the Powertrain system quality projects. Specifically, you will work to define the issue, investigate the root cause, identify escape points, and developing and releasing containment strategies to prevent repeat instances. You will investigate issues arising on current products, and will resolves design issues that causes said problems, working with the relevant teams to define said root causes. You will have the opportunity to work within multiple state of the art testing facilities, materials, and metrology laboratories that you will collaborate with in order to resolve issues. Alongside this, you will also be working within multiple technical fields across the business, including Electronics (Fuel system control modules, level sensors, and pressure sensing), Mechatronics (Fuel pumps, urea pumps, coolant pumps), Sensing systems (NOx sensors, PM sensors), and Hydraulic systems.Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities also include:Delivering the Minimum Business Increments MBIS and stories to investigate an issue following DMAIC/8D problem solving methodology.Definition or refinement of definitionEmergency response/interim containmentRoot cause and escape point investigationPermanent containment development and verificationPermanent containment releaseConfirm strategy for service/request field service actionResponding to escalated dealer technical assistsWarranty analysis to support project prioritisation and field service action justificationTechnical investigation support on critical concern (issues with a safety/legislative implication)WHAT YOU'LL NEEDIn order to be considered for this position, you will need a good understanding of engineering foundation, and ideally experience working in Design and Development. If you have worked as a Design and Release engineer, this would certainly be ideal. Experience/understanding of engineering programmes and delivering problem solving within an engineering field will be very beneficial for you. As the role will involve working across/with multiple business areas, it will be great if you have a flexible and broad range of knowledge from various different engineering projects. Powertrain background is ideal, however the main aspects of the car you will be working on are exhausts, cooling systems, fuel systems, sensors within the exhaust, etc, and not specifically the Powertrain engine. It is for this reason we are looking for someone with more of a generalist engineering background.Essential:Degree qualified (engineering/technical)Strong generalist mechanical engineer with some understanding of basic electronic componentsSix Sigma problem solving methodology.Use of warranty systems/analysis tools e.g Analytical Warranty System AWS, IQM, Tableau, VFDb and CDSExperience of cross functional co-ordination capability in Engineering, Manufacturing, Service and QualityUnderstanding of data analytics, reliability and statisticsAbility to deliver presentations to working groups and senior management.
