Your role as a Joining Development Engineer includes developing the future company strategy for processes, equipment, and systems for the industrialisation aspirations in the body shop BOP for Joining. You will be the main direct interface to the manufacturing team, and reporting into the SME joining D grade, and will support the application Joining team and Product development team for development of Mechanical, Resistance and Adhesive applications. You will have responsibility for creation and maintenance of master documents related to the Mechanical Resistance and Adhesive applications, you will generate best practices and guidelines for issuing to the JLR teams to use in design and industrialisation, these will be based on the development during process and equipment selection, as well as lessons learnt as part of the SE and industrialisation phases.
You will also have responsibility for equipment selection and will be responsible for the equipment RFQ and will work with purchasing to ensure the correct equipment is selected for the production applications. You will be responsible for benchmarking Mechanical, Resistance and Adhesive equipment and suppliers and determining feasible processing approaches for delivering applications into a production facility. You will be responsible for development projects linked to the Mechanical and Resistance processes, this can include new materials and interactions with other technologies, such as robot interfaces, Controls standards and or other joining equipment.
You will work directly with the forward planning team, application joining team, body concept team, structural integration and body structures core teams on feasibility aspects of projects in Pre PS space up to IPB for on cycle projects, including leading lessons learnt activities for feedback at SE and Launch for Mechanical Resistance and adhesive applications with regards to design, process and equipment refinement. You will be a custodian of elements of our key technology for current and future products. You will be expected to teach, mentor and present at global conferences.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will be to support feasibility and delivery from PS to IPB in the forward planning activities, support the delivery team with new technologies and processes where appropriate, and ensure that joining targets are maintained. You will drive improvement in the technologies based on TGW/TGR, lessons learnt feedback during the life cycle of the technology, support Process application strategy where required, and generate Guidelines and MEDOC's for joining technology to allow implementation into production facility and create reaction plans.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
In-depth knowledge and technical expertise in Mechanical, Resistance and Adhesive complex systems, tools and processes related to joining technologies and assembly sequencing for that technology.
Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and manufacturing systems and tools
Ability to effectively explain complex ideas and feasibility limitations, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders
Good understanding of materials, their selection, and limitations
Extensive experience of design development processes
Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred
