Cloud Solutions Architect
We're investing in tech - and our people.
The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we're responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. It's a fast-moving world that's undergoing expansion, so we're investing heavily in new, digital technologies. As a Cloud Solutions Architect, you'll be at the forefront of our digital journey.
This is an exciting opportunity to help ONR transform, working at the hub of our Information Technology & Delivery Directorate (ITDD) architecture function. Your main task will be to own technical solutions by gathering requirements from across ONR, and translating them into a vision and high-level functional specifications.
In effect, you'll combine guidance from different enterprise architecture viewpoints (business, information and technical) and bridge the gap between technical and business functions. We'll look to you to expertly define, validate and promote quality solutions for each opportunity or project, and look for real areas of benefit that support business outcomes.
Your current job title may not be Architect, but you've got the required skills: a Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions qualification plus proven experience of designing and implementing cloud solutions (Azure and M365). You should also be used to developing both high and low-level solution designs incorporating business, application, data, and security requirements. If you've ticked all the boxes so far, you may be ready for this senior role.
To join us, you'll also need experience of ARM templates, BICEP/Terraform or similar tools, and an analytical approach. The latter will be especially important when you're assessing the current systems architecture in place. You'll also need to understand both business and technical cases, but that's not all. People skills will be vital when it comes to managing stakeholders and third party vendors, so you need to be a good communicator too.
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £59,151 - £68,344 plus an additional market rate allowance and an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
ONR is a Public Corporation with a mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. Together they're involved in everything from assessing safety documentation, inspecting nuclear sites and communicating our decisions, to training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR nationally and internationally.
