A great opportunity has arisen within the Mass Affluent Platform for an Engineering Lead to work with an amazing team building propositions for our Mass Affluent Digital Proposition. As an Engineering Lead, you'll be responsible for leading feature teams of engineers developing and supporting digital front-end and back-end applications. You'll help to develop the technical designs of our customer focussed solutions and the plans to deliver them. You'll actively promote engineering best practices and set technology and change delivery direction in alignment with the bank's technology strategy, best practices & principles. Line management will be a key part of this role, helping the engineers in the teams to grow and develop. You'll also help push the engineering agenda within the wider Lab environment, looking for opportunities to improve and transform the way we build our services.


What do we do in Mass Affluent? A major part of the Group strategy to grow in the mass affluent market and the new Mass Affluent team are focussed on designing a new digitally led proposition for this segment of customers. We have close to three million Mass Affluent customers, and we are working hard to create a personalised and tailored offering to ensure a beautiful banking experience. We want to provide a seamless digital experience, with the right products and services at our customers' fingertips, but our face-to-face, telephone and secure messaging remain a vital part of our service.

What you'll do:

Collaborate with product, design, and architecture (among others) to deliver impactful outcomes for your teams.

Be responsible for the health and productivity of engineers in your teams and help them grow to be the best engineers that they can be.

Own the technical designs, decisions and engineering best practises for your teams.

Make hands-on contributions to products where necessary and champion high quality code reviews.

Be part of the engineering leadership team at a Platform level and contribute to how we do engineering within the platform and across the bank.

Is this you?


Experience leading, coaching and mentoring driven and high performing teams.

A strong product mindset - you are comfortable making trade-offs and using data to make decisions.

The ability to break apart problems into incremental milestones.

Great communications skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical subjects to different types of stakeholders.

Experience building and operating event driven microservices.

Experience building reliable, secure and scalable products.


Nice to have:


Experience of building and operating services and infrastructure on GCP. We use EKS, Istio, Kafka, BigQuery and Spanner amongst others.
