Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship - Automotive (Engineering) 

A JLR Advanced Apprenticeship provides an excellent opportunity to broaden your mind learning the latest concepts and technologies at college, and then applying your learning on real life projects. 

We'll open your eyes to the future of automotive technology, giving you a platform to make a real difference to JLR and our customers, whilst enabling you to complete your level 3 apprenticeship and achieve a vocational qualification relevant to your apprentice programme.

You'll be based in our Engineering Operations (EO), Classic Operations team or Event Vehicle Operations (EVO) and will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.


Engineering Operations (EO) - Gaydon, Whitley or Ryton 

Engineering Operations are at the heart of JLR Engineering. Involved at every stage of the engineering process, they underpin technical innovation and product delivery with programme management, tools and processes and specialist technical services to deliver our world class products. A diverse team, EO harness a variety of skill sets, from project management, information management and data analytics, to building and testing prototypes.  

As an apprentice working in EO, some of the teams you may join include our Calibration team, Prototype and Tooling Team, Climatic Team, Workshops Team, Lab Team and more. During your time as an apprentice, depending on the role you join, you could perform valuable activities including fitting brackets, electrical skills such as soldiering, assembly of electronics and components, harness design and assembly, tooling, welding or fault finding. 


Classic Operations - Ryton 

JLR Classic is unique in the automotive world, as owner and custodian of two of the most iconic car brands in the world, and an amazing back catalogue of products to work with.  The Classic division is where bespoke craftsmanship, precision and innovation come together to meet the demands of our diverse VIP customers. We provide the widest range of products, services and experiences of any classic car organisation: continuation models, reborn factory rebuilds, restorations, bespoke commissions and modern interpretations, all with a global customer base.  We plan to continue our recent success and lead this exciting marketplace with more new and innovative products, services and experiences.  

As part of the team, you could find yourself working on bespoke customisations, restorations of iconic cars or preparing vehicles for events. You'll build your skills in servicing and maintenance, engine and gearbox upgrades, hard modelling, component manufacturing and hand-making of soft trim components. 


Event Vehicle Operations (Fen End) 

The primary purpose of JLR Event Vehicle Operations is to prepare and maintain fleets of vehicles to the highest possible standards both dynamically & aesthetically for a broad range of business requirements. As an apprentice you will have the opportunity to work on a range of vehicles such as a single vehicle for a motoring journalist or other VIP's, to management of fleets of up to 200 vehicles to support launch events or significant marketing requirements. You will also be responsible for vehicle preparations for Motor Show, External Events, Photographic / Communications work, and Press requirements. 


The Apprenticeship

The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship - Automotive is an exciting four-year programme which will develop your practical skills and cultivate the knowledge you need for your role, including business behaviours such as team working and problem-solving.   

Your apprenticeship pathway will depend upon the area of the business in which you will be based. You will be asked for your preference on business area ahead of attending an assessment with us.

During your apprenticeship, you can expect to spend a significant amount of your first year at our training provider: Warwick Trident College in Leamington Spa, CV34 6SW. In your first year you'll complement your studies by working at a JLR plant alongside members of our skilled teams. In subsequent years, you will predominantly work in the plant, and you'll continue your studies leading up to your End Point Assessment. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will have constant guidance and support from both the business and the training provider.



You will need to have achieved or be on track to achieve GCSE Maths and English Language at level 4 (C) alongside three further GCSEs at level 4 (C) or higher, including one STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) subject or an Engineering vocational qualification at level 3/90 credits/540 GLH or higher.
