This role is based within the Component and System Testing (CST) department in JLR's Engineering Laboratories, a collection of world-class, cutting-edge testing facilities. CST plays an integral part in physical Verification & Validation (V&V) within the JLR systems engineering landscape, directly influencing the delivery of some of the world's most desirable vehicles from incredible Jaguar EV's to ultra-luxury Range Rovers. This role will provide technical and operational leadership in the ‘mechanical hardware-in-the-loop' (mHIL) test space, ensuring expert execution of chassis system level testing utilising our new, multi-million pound, rig investment portfolio.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership & direction to a team of shift-based test engineers and test technicians to ensure successful delivery of quality test programme activity.
Co-ordinate team activity utilising Agile practices including the preparation of test rigs and chassis-based test samples, configuring ‘mechanical hardware-in-the-loop' (mHIL) systems, execution of test processes, post-test de-prep and reporting out of test results.
Enable cross-functional collaboration with a diverse set of subject matter experts & stakeholders to ensure system testing can be delivered thoroughly, effectively and robustly.
Conduct forward planning and co-ordinate delivery of test programmes to ensure efficient utilisation of resources including people and facilities.
Ensure effective performance & skill management for team of direct reports including objective setting, regular 1:1s, skills matrices reviews, deriving and delivering development action plans and KPI monitoring.
Maintain area compliance and ensure continuous improvement for relevant management systems including H&S (ISO45001), Quality (IATF16949) and Environmental (ISO14001).
Provide consultative and advisory services to customers and the business regarding physical chassis system testing methodologies including test specification generation, new facility requirements and physical-virtual test strategies.
Ensure test facilities are maintained to high standards through application of appropriate quality tools including TPM and 5S.
Drive a Zero Harm culture through rigorous use of H&S tools including safety audits, audit preparation tools, 8D accident investigation processes, concern and countermeasure action reporting and effective risk management.
Lead delivery of appropriate transformational activity in the Component & Sub-System department in line with area scorecard deliverables. WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Extensive experience in physical testing facilities or mHIL test beds.
Experience of model-based systems engineering and visual model interpretation tools (e.g. MatLab/Simulink & IPG Carmaker)
Knowledge of hardware/vehicle system in the loop simulation (e.g. dSpace & XPACK)
Ability to acquire and interpret data utilising data acquisition tools (e.g. Vector Tools CANape/CANalyzer)
Awareness of Vehicular Networks and Communications (e.g. CAN/Flexray)
Good understanding of vehicle active system technologies and control methodologies.
Ability and willingness to lead and manage a small, agile test team.
Effective communication skills with a collaborative approach to stakeholder management and ability to build purposeful relationships.
Exposure to workload management and planning activity.
Experience working with Health and Safety requirements in a test facility environment.
A good understanding of systems Engineering "V-Model" specifically requirements-based testing and design verification & validation.
