Within our Science Function we have an exciting new leadership opportunity Principal Technical Authority for Criticality Safety which will sit under the AWE Chief Scientist. This role will be responsible for assuring standards in the assessment of criticality safety and the governance of key decisions and where necessary, arbitration of criticality safety decisions.

In this role you will be accountable for developing and overseeing a strategy for the development of criticality safety standards, processes, tools, skills, science and information at AWE. The role holder will sponsor and strategically lead the development of business cases to support this strategy. The role holder will work with and challenge the AWE Science Function to ensure that a capability plan that delivers their strategy is well defined, appropriately resourced managed and governed.
The role holder will be responsible for driving innovative thinking in the performance of criticality safety and will be expected to apply this thinking to developing ways of tackling the resource shortages in this critical area.
Whoever is appointed to this role will be AWE's Criticality Safety Authority and will have accountability for the ensuring Suitably Qualified and Experience Person (SQEP) standards in the area of criticality safety and will appoint AWE's Criticality Safety Technical Leads.
The role is accountable for managing relationships with external partners, both in the UK and internationally, in the arena of criticality safety and as the key point of contact for criticality safety.
Leadership is key to us achieving our goals, especially given the complexity of the products we make and the environment we operate in. As this is a senior leadership position, candidates will need to have a significant record of experience and achievement as well as a deep knowledge of criticality safety and its practical implications for nuclear safety cases.
