Controls & Commissioning EngineerHybrid - 3 days in Northamptonshire£60,000-£70,000 + Benefits Our client are currently recruiting for a Controls & Commissioning Engineer to take responsibility for commissioning activities associated to battery and powertrain systems, ensuring they achieve their functional and safety requirements. The role will also involve development of test facilities for manufacturing & production equipment (HiL rigs, End of Line test equipment, automation, etc.) Key ResponsibilitiesTake ownership of commissioning activities for battery and powertrain systems, ensuring they achieve their functional and safety requirements.To develop and document the commissioning processes required to bring up prototype systems achieving a safe and functional state prior to performance/durability testing (i.e. dyno, mule car, etc.)To optimise commissioning processes, reducing time and complexity through software scripts and automated tests. Working closely with software and controls engineers to ensure systems are ready for test and calibration activities. Prepare front end user interfaces (GUI's etc.) for test & validation engineers to assist with development, performance and homologation testing activities; ensuring critical signals and information can be monitored and logged.Apply knowledge of hardware and software systems to support the development of fault detection and recovery strategiesDefine testing procedures for electrical & software related functions, with input from other Powertrain team members as required.Working with cross-functional teams to plan and deliver software and hardware features, identifying resource requirements to ensure on time, on cost and on budget delivery.Contributing to the documentation and maintenance of the system Boundary Diagram, FMEA's, issues reporting and requirements validation.Perform calibration of sensors and instrumentation throughout the commissioning & testing process, informing the Test & Validation team where necessary.Assist in the development of the companies in house test equipment, optimising the functionality and interface, making it simple and repeatable to use by engineers and technicians.Support full-system test activity, documenting results and reporting issues from testing, leading on investigation, root cause analysis and issue resolution.Work on powertrain projects with multiple stakeholders; possibly multiple concurrent projects.Fault find and resolve concerns in a timely and effective manner.To ensure compliance with necessary regulations and standards.SkillsProven experience in design and delivery of automotive Battery Management Systems from design to launch or production ideally as part of an OEM, Tier 1, or consultancy.Experience with software coding tools and software validation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, C++, C#, Vector tools, Pi, MoTeC, etc.Hands on experience working with electrical and electronic hardware; knowledge of design and analysis tools would also be usefulA good understanding of vehicle & battery test and approval standards & best practices.Effective Communication skillsFlexible/Adaptable as you will be working on a range of projects and supporting a number of multidiscipline teamsWell organised and delivery focused - track record of on-time delivery in a high-pressure environmentDrive and commitment to deliver technically challenging projects.Calibration experience of powertrain systemsDesirable:Understanding of the relevant legal requirements, safety standards of BMS design, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), vehicle safety and functional safety standards such as ISO 26262.Familiar with structured problem-solving approaches and typical tools such as 8D and Ishikawa.
