WHAT TO EXPECT
This role will contribute to the development of new technologies and features up to ‘Concept Ready' where it is then handed over to the mainstream Engineering functions. The Research function focus on 5 key research themes, termed pillars; Smart, Connected, Capable, Clean and Desirable. Typical research areas are: Autonomous Vehicles, Human Machine Interface, Machine Learning, V2X, Digital Experiences, Intelligent Mobility, Materials and Smart Surfaces, Vehicle Structures, Batteries and electrification.
This role will involve collaborative research with key leading UK universities and external partners.
You'll be a member of the Software Research Chapter (reporting strcture), working in one of the Agile project squad, using relevant technologies to innovate and solve wide range of automotive challenges, from enabling/improving customer facing vehicle features (e.g. autonomy, personalization) to enhance business operations and processes (e.g. Diagnosis, Service and Warranty, product design).
There're 2 main aspects of this role:
As a software/C++ developer, you'll design, develop and test software applications typically for proof-of-concept and product porotype, which may include embed software and control systems. You'll work with other squad members including e.g. cyber security engieers and system engineers (project dependant) to build end-to-end solutions, typically features on the car, but could also include internal applicaions. You'll also need to capture requirement from internal and external customers, and validate the application meets customer requirements.
As a Research engineer, you'll need to find the best solution to complex problems, explore new technologies and opportunities, live outside your comfortable zone, take diversity of tasks and learn new skills for the success of whole project.
You'll be working in Agile squads, with Product Owner, Scrum Master and other squad members.
This role also involves collaborative research with key leading UK universities and external partners depends on project.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Delivery of relevant research technologies and associated projects to ensure robust processes are achieved on time and to Engineering Specification.
Contribute to the resolution of key technical and strategic challenges
Develop of Proof-of-Concept technologies
record all data, ensure adherence to relevant procedures
Work on the identification of the project roadmaps and work on assigned strategic University Research
Ensure new and innovative ideas are put forward for patent filling
Provide technical support on projects when handing over to mainstream engineering
Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Essential:
Expertise in C++ programming. Traceable record of use C++ to develop multiple launched products.
Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Matlab, Simulink, Python, Java/Javascript, SQL.
Ability of resolution of the key technical issues within a team environment
Ability to write reports and the ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audience.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
