The Opportunity


Operating in a cross-functional organisation, Project Engineers will report into the relevant Chapter Leader and can also be part of an Agile Squad completing tasks for multiple stakeholders. 
The role requires the individual to support the needs of the off-cycle squad in delivering the technical Body of Knowledge, the ‘How' to engineer a specific safety component and/or sub-system, new technology development as well as support the quality targets for our current vehicles.

The Safety Component Integration Group has complete responsibility for the design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover safety systems from concept design through to volume production. A role within the Safety Integration Group involves working with a wide range of development tools within challenging functional and cost targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business as well as external component and system suppliers.

What to expect

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


Support the off-cycle squad (including direction from Tech Chapter Leader, Product Owner and Scrum Master) in order to deliver the ABR/QBR aspiration, delivering value in each sprint, aligned to the Body Eng Interiors vision and epics. 
Contribute to the product "Safety Integration Body of Knowledge" (BoK) including component and sub-system engineering standards (requirements,  test cases, DFMEA, Bill of Designs and Design Rules).
Support the resolution of life-cycle quality projects

Support off-cycle pre-development projects to ensure that any new technology is implementation ready including investigative research, benchmarking up to component and sub-system testing. Progressively consolidating this learning back into the BoK.
Resolve issues with component and sub-system engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets
Ensure all appropriate JLR standards and applicable regulations are updated /authored to the required quality levels, and meet the customer need. 

Work within the Agile framework and principles, delivering maximum value to the Customer
Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time

What you'll need:

Essential:

  • Previous experience of supporting managing the resolution of business, technical and process issues within an Engineering Project Team environment
  • A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes 
  • Knowledge and use of Problem-solving Techniques in the development process
  • Understanding of Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification and Planning (DVP) in conjunction with experience of Forward Model Quality strategies
  • Experience in working cross functionally with other areas in a technical environment
  • Engineering Degree qualified or equivalent experience preferred  

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with automotive restraints and knowledge of vehicle level safety requirements.
  • Previous experience in Body Engineering / Safety Components, Restraint Electronics or Vehicle Safety environments
  • Experience in the design, testing and/or product development of automotive components and systems
  • Understanding of Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification and Planning (DVP) in conjunction with experience of Forward Model Quality strategies
  • Working knowledge of safety system development including airbag or seat belt dynamic performance, manufacturing processes and related standards and test procedures or vehicle safety attribute delivery or test.
  • Experience of OEM / supplier relationship management.
  • Experience of working within an Agile organisation.
  • You will also need a full driver's licence to travel to various Jaguar Land Rover manufacturing sites across the UK if needed.
