PROGRAMME DURATION:?2 years???
Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business and you'll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.
A graduate programme at JLR gives you access to some of the most innovative and visionary industry experts, networking opportunities and invaluable industry insight. By the time you finish the programme, you'll play a vital part in JLR's future and build the exceptional long-term career you've proved you're capable of.
Arrive with ambition. Grow with freedom.
Electronics & Complex Integration Systems Engineering
Automotive systems are increasing in complexity and becoming highly distributed across the vehicle platform. Electronics systems and their components are the driving force behind our cutting-edge customer-facing features, from assisted and automated driving to the quality-of-life improvements drivers expect when using their vehicles.
Potentially rotating through a number of different specialisms, you will gain a rounded view of the business and develop cross-functional relationships with senior stakeholders as you deliver innovative engineering solutions.
During the Electronics & Complex Integration Systems Graduate Programme, you could work in one of the following departments: Engineering Body Chassis (EBC), Digital Product Platform (DPP), Engineering Vehicle (EV), Engineering Research (ER) or Engineering Propulsion (EP). You will be allocated to a department based on personal preferences and business need.
Engineering Body Chassis (EBC)
Engineering Body is responsible for the majority of content that you see and touch in our cars. We work closely with the creative studio to translate their award-winning solutions into engineering reality, taking into account performance, manufacturability, sustainability, cost and weight.
?Each area is multidisciplinary, focusing on challenges such as geometry creation using Computer Aided Design (CAD), performance robustness using Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), material selection, complex electro-mechanical interfaces and software. We work with all departments across JLR, (procurement, creative, manufacturing, etc.) as well as international suppliers. In addition to refining current vehicles, we're defining the technology roadmap for the next 10 years.
The components body engineering team is responsible for our lids, doors, structures, cabin and safety, cockpits, climate, seats, exteriors, lighting and glazing & roofs. In all these areas, we focus on perceived quality, materials, sustainability and vehicle safety.
Meanwhile, our chassis team focuses on axles, steering, brakes and suspension as well as driving dynamics and off-road capability. You could find yourself assisting in developing the next generation of body structures, improving performance (crash, weight, noise vibration and harshness), enhancing sustainability impact and/or improving manufacturing efficiency. Equally, you could become involved in writing software for our complex lighting or work with our suppliers to develop new sustainable materials, to ensure we meet our net zero commitment by 2039.
From day one, you will be part of a team and will be personally responsible for developing real-world engineering solutions. You will learn tools, engineering methodologies and techniques to create and optimise engineering innovations that will enrich your capabilities, raise your profile and accelerate your development as an engineer. This will involve both working on new products and enhancing current products from the basic science all the way through to the customers hands.
Digital Product Platform (DPP)
Using cutting-edge tools and processes, including model-based techniques, you will support system design and validation to ensure we deliver the premium features and consistent quality that our customers expect.
Along the way, you could focus on driving the design and implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions or concentrate on developing models and simulations. Wherever you specialise, you will enjoy constant interaction with diverse stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle as you draft and maintain engineering design documentation.
Engineering Vehicle (EV)
EV is the key technical department for the product creation process: leading engineering innovation from concept to customer, managing the technical content of programmes, and balancing customer attributes and commodities to deliver and launch world class products.
In particular, EV drives the creation and control of vehicle architectures, conducts diverse technical projects and concept studies, and champions end-to-end vehicle efficiency improvements, whilst integrating systems to ensure the seamless delivery of futureproofed cars. Within EV you could find yourself working within vehicle efficiency, human factors or central systems integration.
Engineering Research (ER)
We research, explore and develop technical solutions and innovations that will address the future needs, challenges and expectations of the world, our company and our customers. In short, we want to enable JLR's transition to sustainable, modern luxury through advancing new technology and innovation that creates value.
The ER team is based at the University of Warwick campus within the National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC). We have access to amazing collaborative spaces, a large engineering hall, multiple laboratories and workshops, which help us create proof of concepts and prove our theories, and technologies we are exploring and their scalability for automotive application.
Engineering Propulsion (EP)
Our propulsion engineers are leaders in the design, testing, validation and certification of world-class propulsion systems, aimed at delivering driving experiences that our customers will love for life.
The scope of our propulsion systems is far-reaching, including electric drive units, energy storage devices, engines, transmissions and drivelines, complemented by software system integration, calibration and control strategies.
Our propulsion team has a global perspective, and our engineers carry out overseas testing and certification in world markets, gather market-specific feedback, interface with colleagues and supplier manufacturing plants across the world, and collaborate cross-functionally with all our key stakeholders.
Vehicle Programmes (VP)
Our mission is to integrate the enterprise to deliver commercially successful products on time and to quality standards, which fulfil our brand and customer promise throughout their lifecycles.
As such, we work with all areas across JLR to release our product programmes, so roles with us give great exposure to the business. VP offers a truly cross-functional experience, through product strategy, programme management, business performance, cross-carline and commodity strategy, and programme purchasing.
You will need to hold or be on track to achieve at least a 2.2 degree in systems engineering, electronic and communications engineering, computer science, software engineering, cryptography, maths or physics.
In addition, you will require real passion for problem-solving and the curiosity to understand business challenges and deliver innovative solutions. You will also have strong numerical and interpersonal skills and the confidence to champion new initiatives.
REWARDS AND BENEFITS?
Our 2024 graduate programme salary is £31,000, with a £2,000 joining bonus to welcome you to JLR. After two years, you will progress from the graduate programme on a £38,000 salary. In addition, JLR offer a generous holiday allowance, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, excellent pension provisions and access to a wide range of deals and discounts from well-known retailers and sports clubs.
Once you've successfully completed your graduate programme, you can look forward to a long-term career with us. The role you take on will depend on your performance, personal preferences and business needs.
You will be applying your curiosity and creativity every day as you begin to hone your skills for a successful, impactful career. You own your development, and only you can make it happen.
