Linux System Engineer Hybrid (Watford Site) 6month contract Outside IR35 Job DescriptionOur client is currently undergoing a significant infrastructure improvement programme and need an experience Linux Systems Engineer to join the team. The programme is multifaceted and covers improvements to redundancy and resiliency, security (implementations of SIEM and PAM services) and infrastructure as code to name a few. As the System Engineer you will be part of a team, you will be focused on supporting and enhancing the IT environment. The focus of this role will be to support and enhance the pre-production and production web infrastructure. In this role you will be supported by the IT Operations Manager who is also focused on the pre-production and production web infrastructure, as well as managing the team. Along with the IT Operations Manager you will provide mentor-ship to more junior team members. RequirementsThe main technologies this role will be focused on are:Linux (Ubuntu and Debian preferred)AWS (EC2 and RDS)VMwareDockerAnsibleTerraformApacheNGINXExperience with monitoring tools is necessary Experience with any of the following is a bonus:Physical serversPumaMaintaining and enhancing DNSMaintaining and enhancing firewallsExperience with SAN storageExperience supporting database servers (Oracle preferred, Postgres or MySQL is also good)Windows serverExchangeDell Boomi AtomsExperience in a regulated environment and with compliance ResponsibilitiesThe Systems Engineer will:Get involved with and lead infrastructure improvement projects, such as SIEM, PAM and infrastructure as code.Help to define clients future infrastructure to ensure security, resiliency and scalability so clients infrastructure facilitates the growth of the business.Support the existing client web environments, both production and pre-production.Work closely with the client development team to assist in the delivery of projects.Research and recommend innovative and open minded approaches for systems engineering tasks.Communicate effectively with stakeholders and build relationships with users around the business.Communicate with third-parties to ensure the smooth operation of clients infrastructure.Work with members of the business at all levels to formulate technical solutions to meet business needs.Create and update infrastructure documentation.Track all work through the clients ticketing system.Adhere to and help define clients procedures to ensure quality, compliance and securityPerform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, resources, systems, services and key processes.Recovery of systems and services from hardware or software failures/errors.Application of patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.Installation of new IT equipment (servers, services, settings, storage, policies, etc.)Develop, maintain and adhere to installation, configuration and change management procedures and policies.
