The base salary banding for this role is £61,176 - £84,117 in London and £52,912 - £72,754 outside of London (depending on experience), plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution (when you put in 6%), 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.We also offer flexible working hours, agile working practices and regular home working. Our technology, our culture, and our mind-set is changing to craft a true engineering-led organisation.Our Cloud SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) team is looking for an experienced and passionate Engineer with strong hands-on development experience. As a Cloud SRE you'll be an active and leading member of a cloud-focused team of engineers - working on one of the Group's flagship projects to run and maintain a set of products and services on the Google Cloud Platform that will enable the business to realise the next generation of services that form the Bank's vision for 2022 and beyond!

The role will have accountabilities including:

Delivering against GCP and SRE Public Cloud technology roadmapsCollaboratively working with other engineering teams to build, release and evolve enterprise-class solutions, that are reliable and evergreen as cloud technologies continue to mature as a fast-paceThe role will require engineers to be responsible for the operations of a large set of Cloud products and services (including 24x7 coverage by participating in pager-duty/on-call rota)

What you'd get involved with:

Hands-on engineering, maintaining our Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipeline based product and services by responding to change, implementing enhancements & improving reliability and customer experienceObservability, investigating & fixing service issues, with an engineering mindset - resolving via code changes and implementing improvements to prevent repeat issuesImplementing further automation and reducing toil, by utilising existing Cloud tooling or implementing new technologies

What's needed to be considered for this job?

Essential:

Experience working with a broad set of GCP products (or extensive experience with another Public Cloud platform, such as Azure or AWS)Strong DevOps understanding, including experience of Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, such as Terraform and Jenkins, or alternatives such as Azure DevOpsAbility to quickly understand, update and write code in languages such as Python, Groovy, BASH, PowerShellA strong understanding of Cloud security and networkingExperience in problem-solving, able to demonstrate logical thinking and excellent troubleshooting skillsDemonstrate a passion to continue to learn and develop your engineering skillsStrong understanding and demonstrable use of source control practice and collaborative working as part of an engineering teamExperience of developing for, or administrating Kubernetes clusters in a production environmentExperience in automating/scripting to remove toil

Desirable:

Leadership experience including line management, team leadership, mentoring and task managementRecent practical experience using SDKs and APIs to deliver automationCertifications in GCP or another cloud platform, such as Azure, AWSCandidates with less direct experience in cloud engineering, who can demonstrate strong skills in other areas such as sysadmin, software engineering or other technology/engineering disciplines who also are able to quickly adapt and pick up new skills will also be considered

Ability to work with architectural, business and other engineers to shape, design and engineer solutions.Ability to work with a team of engineers to deliver domain-owned deliverables and dependencies.Continuous curiosity to learn and develop themselves with industry best practice methods and tooling in the cloud function.Technology agnostic and are willing to adapt their approach in pursuit of the best solution.
