Edinburgh based role (please only apply if able to work in this location at least 2 days every fortnight.

Salary & Benefits: £52,912 - £69,447 base salary, plus annual personal bonus, up to 15% employer pension contribution, 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays. We also offer flexible working hours, agile working practices and regular home working.

Working within one of our newly formed Platform teams, Site Reliability Engineers will use their strong DevOps/SRE knowledge and development skills to build resilience and observability into our Pension products. Working in one of our product teams made up of Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Quality Engineers, Software Engineers and SREs, engineers will have the opportunity to influence design, development and application support decisions as well as apply best practices to drive continuous improvement.

Job Description

The Workplace Pensions Platform is rapidly growing its SRE team to support the growth and optimisation of our digital applications.

About the role:

The digital teams in our Pensions Platform are passionate about improving support to our customers throughout their financial lives, with clear, straightforward customer journeys, helping them to make the right decisions on their long-term Saving, Investment & Retirement needs.

As a Site Reliability Engineer within our Keep Me On Track lab you'll be joining us at an exciting time as we transform the services we offer our Corporate Pensions customers. As one of the early joiners in the SRE area you'll help craft our strategy and drive high reliability into our systems, by mentoring the engineers in our feature teams to produce efficient code with a service engineering focus.

What's needed to be considered for this job?

Essential criteria:

Previous experience working in a Site Reliability Engineer capacity or other similar role.

Demonstrable experience applying SRI and DevOps principles in a similar environment.

Ability to read and understand code in a modern programming language and not be afraid of writing a few lines yourself.

Understand and able to communicate complex technical problems to non-technical partners at different levels within the organisation.

Experience of common software engineering methodologies such as Agile, Scrum.

Experience of modern software engineering tooling such as GitHub, Confluence, JIRA.

Ability to identify reliability risks and opportunities for automation.

Understanding of multi-tier system architectures and ability to debug and identify points of failure.

Proactive and curious approach to engineering problems.

Desirable skills & experience:

Experience of applying SRE principles such as:

Service Level Management (SLIs, SLOs and SLAs)

Blameless Post Mortems

TOIL Reduction via Automation

Capacity and Cost Planning

Chaos Engineering

Observability

Production Readiness Reviews

Proficient container based skills such as Docker and Kubernetes

Experience in a team supporting a 24x7 application (pager duty or on-call)

Training and certifications in Google Cloud - preferably Google Cloud Associate Engineer

Experience of observability tooling (such as Dynatrace, Kibana, Elastic, Splunk)
