We're looking for an exceptional Lead Test Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.

Our Lead Test Engineer will work a hybrid pattern of homeworking and approximately once per month in Exeter HQ .

As our Lead Test Engineer, your total reward package is potentially worth up to £57847.00 annually, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Your starting salary will be £37418.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £41159.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

In addition you will be paid £6000.00 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. You will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2022 until March 2024 in your monthly pay whilst performing this role.

Job Purpose

Transport Tribe is a DevOps tribe made up of three development squads. The Tribe is responsible for building and supporting critical systems that supply weather data to key transport industries (e.g. Aviation, Rail & Marine) allowing them to make better decisions on safety and logistics.

As a tribe we pride ourselves on our 'one team' culture and even though each squad is working on separate projects we manage the responsibility of supporting our systems as one Tribe.

As a Tribe we are keen to grow our maturity in the testing and QA space enabling us to meet our regulated contractual obligations more efficiently and reliably. To achieve this we are looking to recruit a Lead Test Engineer.

Responsibilities include:

Developing test strategies/plans for projects being undertaken by the Transport Tribe.

Defining mechanisms to help measure the quality of the Tribes software systems.

Coaching, mentoring & educating Tribe members in best practise, approach and automation.

Script non-functional and functional tests.

Assist with reviewing and bringing onboard 3rd party squads.

Take an active part in supporting the Tribes operational systems.

Take an active role in the Testing Community of practice, and regularly share learning with external test communities.

Work closely with leads across the digital, data and technology profession to champion quality.

Have line management responsibilities

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Ability to analyse requirements, lead on investigative work to identify gaps, understand system and container based architecture diagrams and produce test strategies/plans for complex IT systems.

Broad hands-on experience of IT Trends and technologies used to test IT systems from a functional and non-functional perspective including test automation.

Knowledge of how testing fits in with Agile methodologies and a continuous delivery approach.

A communication style that fosters good working relationships with technical and non-technical colleagues enabling trust and respect.

Leadership qualities that inspire and nurture.

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements.
