SQL Server Database Administrator Design and Implement Team - Digital Services Preston, Lancashire (with remote/home working too!) Salary from £39,571 to £44,624 We are currently recruiting... An SQL Database Administrator to work in the Design and Implement Team within Digital Services at Lancashire County Council. This is a great role for the right person with the right experience and skills... so politely, we're not looking for an SQL Developer, love you all but no... and we're not looking for someone fabulous who works on a service desk - again, great skillset but not the one for us... what we 100% need is someone experienced, talented and technically skilled in SQL Server Database Administration who would like to work with a dynamic, forward thinking, digitally astute organisation who has a whole "Digital First" strategy to take us through to 2024 and beyond. It's occasionally thought that with this being a public sector role, our technology will be outdated - nothing could be further from the truth - we utilise cutting edge technology, have the scale and resource to introduce complex digital solutions plus employ an innovative and creative team who love challenges and deliver brilliantly... What we are looking for... Passion - You'll be passionate about new developments and technology, about how we can use SQL Server functionality to enhance our services and passionate about how we (and you!) can learn more and develop our systems further - you'll also be passionate about customer service and delivering above expectations with the ability to influence and negotiate as our focus sometimes changes which could cause competing priorities; so the ability to support and deliver on customer requirements but with the diplomacy to also explain changing timescales Challenge - the best part of the role is also the most challenging... you'll feel like "a kid in a candy store" due to the variety of the work... from small databases with 1 or 2 users to enterprise systems with thousands of users and they'll be relying on you to make it all work, you'll need to be innovative and reactive plus enjoy working in a fluid and diverse role - we hope you'll be brilliant at communication and relationship management with internal/external customers and have the ability to decipher exactly what their requirements are even when they're not sure themselves, so able to interpret and translate what they say into innovative and dynamic solutions Knowledge - You'll be a specialist in SQL Server Administration (versions 2012 to 2019 Enterprise Edition) and have an exemplary understanding of SQL databases with various functionalities on a variety of different platforms - you're background and experience will ensure that you're an expert in implementing database solutions that are aligned to availability and disaster recovery strategies plus we'd like someone who has the versatility so they can also work magic with upgrades, migration, patching and scripting - fairly eclectic but we're excited to see what you can do and we can promise you fast-paced fun, bags of support and the ability to work flexibly in return. Why join us... Benefits: We have an incredibly flexible and supportive culture with a real focus on work-life balance and the ability to buy an additional 20 days leave to support this. We also have a plethora of discounts and benefits from dog care to day care to days out or in, log cabins by Snowdon or holidays abroad, health and well-being discounts, Medicash, support groups, local government pensions, cycle to work schemes and much more. Development: You'll get support, development and the ability for further qualifications should you wish plus lots of opportunities for personal and professional growth. We're the fourth largest local authority in the UK so there are a variety of ways to grow and develop your skills and your career at the same time. We love to promote internally and support collaboration across teams so whatever your direction of travel - we'll help you get there. Inclusivity: we don't have a "one size fits all" idealism, we embrace diversity and that includes around personal and family requirements so appreciate that you'll want to be working from home when you can, your hours may vary or change and for us - delivering successful outcomes is more important than watching the clock.
