Functieomschrijving We are now looking for a Solution Architect to join Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join the Network Management Systems (NMS) group and report to our Head of NMS Centre of Competence. We see this as a great opportunity to shape future products and solutions that we develop and deploy to enable our customers to maximise the use of their Satellite Communication Networks. The NMS are a Research and Technology (R&T) package, focusing on filling technology gaps and developing solutions. The team are looking at building future satcom systems using the latest technologies, next level of automation and are very collaborative within the business.  Our Solution Architects define the top level solution definition and provide guidance to our teams of innovative and enthusiastic engineers - providing cutting edge new technology solutions to meet next-generation mission needs.  You may be working as a system engineer currently and be looking to take the next step - we can support your development in this direction. Tasks & Accountabilities
You will be working closely with our team of experienced engineers to build on your knowledge to take your career to the next level. The job involves working directly with our customers and product portfolio team to understand requirements, defining solutions with the support of other members of the team (Systems, Software Engineers) and working with the team to develop proof of concepts and sharing these in field trials. After successful trials the solutions are handed over to other teams to further develop into full products. The role could involve travel within the UK and worldwide and you will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance for this team.  Skills & Experience This position is in the field of NMS, so we are looking for proven experience of a similar area (e.g. IP Network Management, Satcom Planning, etc) or an area of similar complexity. Background of technical leadership for a team system engineers Solution engineering - ability to define a top level solution using COTS and/or bespoke developments Knowledge of modelling tools and UML/SysML - we value working code/proof of concept over documentation but recognise the importance of high level design  A commercial background of understanding the wider picture of solution architecture and business impacts Track record of engaging and presenting to multiple stakeholders and customers Software engineering - experience of working closely with software engineers (if you still want to continue coding, we can support this) Knowledge/interest of satellite communication systems/industry (doesn't have to be military) What Airbus Can Offer You  A competitive salary with annual profit share An ever growing list of company benefits including enhanced pay for maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave  Very strong, very real career development options across our transnational, market leading company A hybrid working pattern of 2 to 3 days per week in the office and 2 to 3 days remotely Flexible hours - 37 per week with no core hours on Friday afternoons! #LI-OC1 Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways, including part-time.
