Who are Lloyds Banking Group?

Lloyds Bank are on a mission to help Britain Prosper, and we need your help in achieving our goals. We are revolutionising our technology, empowering our engineers and rapidly transforming our agile working methods. Come. Join us. Be part of building the Bank of the Future!

Where does the role sit and what will I develop?

Your role will be instrumental in driving the engineering and architecture while embedding an agile DevOps mentality across a number of feature teams. Lloyds Banking Group are passionate about building a diverse and equal opportunities company and your support will be required as you help build our teams.

Leading by example, your primary focus will be on delivering change in the New Payments Architecture (NPA) lab. Your responsibilities, however, will stretch to the growth and development of our people, and of the overall engineering, architecture and DevOps skills within the lab.

This role sits within payments so the software you help deliver will focus on supporting our customers in the Faster Payments domain.

What would I focus on as an Engineering Lead?

You'll form part of the senior management team, focusing on line managing the staff in your teams and taking ownership for their learning and development. Staff will be multi-disciplinary including software engineers, quality engineers, solution/architecture staff and DevOps to name a few.

Through your team you'll aim to deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring and supporting the team. We mainly use Java to develop in this area.

'Security is at the heart of everything we do at LBG and our Engineers contribute to building a secure culture. It'll feature as a key part of your role - having a secure mindset to provide strong and resilient business solutions that safeguard our business and customers from security threats'.

Example of some specific activities might include:

Form the quorum of our design and decision forum, and support colleagues with advice based on your expertise

Develop technical strategies to transform and modernise our lab

Identify and build relationships with senior leaders to influence and enable the implementation of your strategies

Supporting the management of key stakeholders in the business, and also 3rd parties we partner with

We're moving to utilise private and public cloud so you'll be heavily involved in our move for this area of the business

Oversee multiple feature teams that must define and drive their own solutions and you'll assist in daily delivery activity and defend your recommendations at senior forums

Educate both technical and non-technical colleagues about DevOps topics and articulate reasoning behind key technical decisions

What do we need to see from applicants?

We like people who come from a diverse set of backgrounds that can bring new and challenging ways of thinking to the team. As a minimum to be considered we'll need to see evidence of the following in your CV's;

Experience within a senior management role in an Engineering function, ideally a background within software development.

Demonstrable team leading and LM skills working within an agile delivery cadence

Architecture and Java Engineering knowledge (enough to advise / question your team, but this role is not hands on).

Technical knowledge of Java Springboot & microservices development

An understanding of Kafka

A broad ranging general level of technical knowledge

There are also desirable skills which would be advantageous if you had them, but please apply if you don't! Experience in the Payments Domain / Financial Services in general, exposure to private or public cloud, and an understanding of Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration tooling.

What will you get in return?

On top of our excellent salary & benefits packages, this will be a stimulating and exciting position with plenty of opportunities for career growth and development. Supported throughout you should be encouraged to take the initiative, establish relationships and make a positive difference to our customers, our colleagues and our communities.

Together we'll make it possible...

Our continued commitment to helping Britain recover means that as a colleague you can make a difference to customers, businesses and communities.

Together we have a key role to play in shaping the bank of the future, whilst the scale and reach of our Group means you'll continue to have opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

We're focused on creating a values-led culture, and our approach to inclusion and diversity means that we all have the opportunity to make a real difference, together.

Sound like you? Then apply today...

As part of the Group's commitments as a result of ring-fencing legislation, colleagues based in the Islands are required to be exclusively dedicated to the non-ring-fenced bank and its subsidiaries. This means that colleagues who are based in the Islands would not be able to undertake roles for the Ring Fenced Bank from their existing location and would need to consider relocation when applying for roles.
